I feel like contextual clicks inside of apps are an anti-pattern (especially on touchscreens). I click on a toot over here, and it loads the toot. I click on the toot over there, and it loads the link to whatever article they linked to. Click in yet another spot, and it loads this profile of the person who made the toot. This is all inside a 1in x 2in rectangle. My thumb takes up half the rectangle. Like, wtf.
As laptop touchpads get worse, this is becoming a problem there too!

The linked article is pretty good, and worth the click. (Spoiler: it’s the humans who are the real monsters.)
I suspect it’s especially good for its audience: people who are just now realizing the AI doomsaying carries ulterior motives, and aren’t quite as deeply embedded in all this as us salty old engineers are.
It stops short of the conclusion I hoped that it would reach: the panic mongering serves the interest of insidious ultra-wealth and power, the real risk comes from those who wield that wealth and power, and it is that wealth and power that we need to fight against to address this risk.

Ugh.. teams just decided that we all want automatic emoji conversion, so now if I try to tag my student, like:

teams instead gives me:
"Max 👨‍🎓" (without a tag, because it's not the full tag name anymore, because the tag name contains the word (student), yes it's weird I know)
... and there is of course no way to deactivate the automatic emoji conversion 🤦
