Had to take my cat to the veterinary ER last night for an eye wound. It turned out to be more of a head and eyelid laceration from skin irritation so it wasn't that serious, but being in the pet ER for a couple of hours was an experience.
The amount of grief coming in through the door was unnerving. You'd have to have the uncommon combination of nerves of steel plus an oversized compassion meter to be able to handle working in a place like that for more than a month.

I only learned how to do this with years of therapy, but it has really helped make my body easier to live in and my life easier to lead. I always gave others concessions and excuses, but it took reframing past experiences from the view of an outsider to allow myself personal forgiveness.
Imposter syndrome? That was another matter. It instantly went away in 2016 when Donald Trump was elected. I realized how truly incompetent, manipulative, and openly malicious people can gain power and no longer felt anyone could say anything about my well-qualified, earnest, and ethical little jobs.

What is your cure for getting out of a creative slump?
That's usually my brain's way of asking for a pause. I look around me: what's going on in my life? Stress? Worries? Grief? Anger? Unresolved problems soaking up the energy?
Show the ol' noggin some compassion and let it have the break it's asking for.
Just don't overdo it.

At 27 pages into Gil Duršn’s new book “The Nerd Reich” I came full stop at this sentence:
“As many political schools of thought do, these technolibertarians make a philosophy out of a personality defect.”
Simply and elegantly stated. The various techno-optimistic philosophies running around Silicon Valley and the venture capital community are toxic and inhumane. We are desperately in need of a new tech manifesto that puts human wellbeing, acceptance, compassion and love as first principals. Why do we write code if not for this? The current direction of technology leadership has taken a wrong turn onto a dark and destructive path. This needs to change.
This is a great book so far. Highly recommend it.
