Climate justice took center stage at Pre-COP30 as African and Global South advocates made their case clear: adaptation finance isn't charity—it's survival.
CSOs pushed for locally-rooted indicators in the Global Goal on Adaptation, fair compensation for communities displaced by green projects, and recognition of food sovereignty in climate policy.

Over the past quarter-century, political, legal and economic changes have reshaped the relationship between wealth and political power in America.
Economists say wealth is now more concentrated at the very top than at any time since the Gilded Age.
The tech and market revolutions of recent decades have created riches on an unprecedented scale.

There’s a lot to be said about that story beyond just “Spotify sucks:” how internships can be exploitative, how creators in general do not receive (and historically long have not received) proper compensation for their own work, how orgs especially treat women and especially Black women as disposable free labor. Details left as an exercise for the reader.

Jason Proctor is contributing to the CBC's live blog scroll from a legal perspective and as always, his stuff is illumniating. I'll paste his report in because it can get lost in the scroll easily.
"Creditors circle as cull looms
Jason Proctor
I'm Jason Proctor, a reporter with CBC Vancouver who looked into a series of lawsuits facing the owners of Universal Ostrich Farms Inc.
Last month, I spoke with three creditors who are watching today's ruling with great interest — and some skin in the game.
B.C. Supreme Court judges have ordered the farm's owners to repay debts worth more than $250,000 but, up until now, the creditors have been unable to collect. Normally in this kind of situation, a creditor would move to seize the business assets — but because in this case those assets are ostriches caught up in a legal battle, that's been challenging, to say the least.
All three creditors have tried to garnish the CFIA to intercept any money the agency might pay out as compensation for killing the birds (potentially up to $3,000 a bird, the CFIA says) but it remains to be seen how that will work. The creditors, however, told me they are anxious to recoup their losses.”

Abstract: Optical computing represents a groundbreaking technology that leverages the unique properties of photons, with innate parallelism standing as its most compelling advantage. Parallel optical computing like cascaded Mach-Zehnder interferometers (MZIs) based offers powerful computational capabilities but also introduces new challenges, particularly concerning dispersion due to the introduction of new frequencies. In this work, we extend existing theories of cascaded MZI systems to develop a generalized model tailored for wavelength-multiplexed parallel optical computing. Our comprehensive model incorporates component dispersion characteristics into a wavelength-dependent transfer matrix framework and is experimentally validated. We propose a computationally efficient compensation strategy that reduces global dispersion error within a 40 nm range from 0.22 to 0.039 using edge-spectrum calibration. This work establishes a fundamental framework for dispersion-aware model and error correction in MZI-based parallel optical computing chips, advancing the reliability of multi-wavelength photonic processors.

If you know something about Basic Income, you may be aware that
👉one of the first proposals for a Basic Income came from Thomas Paine, hero of the American and French revolutions.
In 1797, after a stint in a French prison, Paine wrote the pamphlet
"Agrarian Justice",
⭐️which sets out an argument for taxing land and distributing the proceeds among the population at large as compensation for landlessness.
Paine’s proposal to tax land and distribute the …

Good Morning #Canada
2026 has been designated as the International Year of the Woman Farmer by the United Nations, in an effort to increase and improve food security across the planet. Once again we call upon the fairer sex to save humanity.
Women led farms are on the rise in Canada. From the 2021 #StatsCan report, there were 80,000 female farm operators, representing 30% of total farm operators, up from 25% in 1991. In general female participation is increasing while men are decreasing. Farming is an industry where women operators can achieve wage parity with male counterparts because compensation is based on market conditions, but currently most women led farms are smaller with less annual revenues.
A helpful #AI tells me a female farmer could could be called a farmerette, a farmeress, or farmHER. So helpful...

I don't know how much of Musk’s newly "approved" salary of $1 Trillion is stocks or compensation or what… I don't really care.
And I also don't want to hold up Steve Jobs as any kind of Saint. But he was different.
"I was worth about over $1 million when I was 23, and over $10 million when I was 24, and over $100 million when I was 25, and it wasn't that important,” Jobs revealed in a 1996 PBS documentary.”
