Like Malaysia Airlines MH17 and Korean Air Lines 007, seems Azerbaijan Airlines J2-8243 may have been shot down. #russia just can’t stop hurting people.
“FlightRadar24…said…aircraft…faced ‘strong GPS jamming,’ which ‘made…aircraft transmit bad ADS-B data,’ referring to…information…allows flight-tracking websites to follow planes…Russia…blamed in…past for jamming GPS transmissions…”

After wearing my cargo pants yesterday and being spoiled by decent sized pockets (I could fit my phone in the front pocket, keys, and lipstick without it falling out when I sit) I’m pissed again about the pockets in my current pants, back pocket I can only put my hand up to my second knuckle in the back (might fit a lipstick but it would fall out) and the front ones, stuff keeps falling out when I sit. I’m going to lengthen the pockets based on the cargo pants pockets, I don’t care if it ‘ruins the line of the pants, and adds bulkiness’ because as I always say, women’s pockets, when pants have them, are bullshit. And I don’t care if they make me look fat because I value function and comfort more. My son can fit a whole keyboard in his. I’ve been gradually lengthening my pockets as I get to them, or wearing a Fanny pack, but had to go to a funeral Sunday and got pissed again about my pockets. I want to empower other women with decent pockets, so we can take over. That poem about seditious pockets comes to mind. Or at least carry phones and keys. Will post photos. #sewing #pockets #womenspants

Almost noticed this too late, and I would’ve been greatly upset if I had missed it: Voting for the #Latin Word of the Year 2024 has started, with candidates curated from the new (“newly discovered”?!) words added to the Thesaurus linguae Latinae! Make sure y’all vote!!

Went to Marfa to celebrate our 25th anniversary. Photos are Bitter Sugar coffee, Motel, a lit firebird hood in our room, and the bathtub. Visited friend Chris at Sticks & Bones, had an amazing sandwich at Bordo, ate at Margaret’s and LaVenture. Quick stop at Chinati Foundation as it was closing. My first trip to West Texas, I’d only gone East and North before. Texas is really big. #marfa #texas #roadtrip #bittersugar #sticksandbones

Series A, Episode 03 - Cygnus Alpha
ZEN: Course and speed confirmed.
AVON: With our speed we'll probably outrun them. This time. But they'll keep coming. Pushing us, tracking us. They'll never give up.

ChatGPT4 describes the image as: "This image is a scene from the British sci-fi television series "Blake's 7." The setting appears to be the interior of a spaceship, with futuristic design elements such as hexagonal patterns and advanced control panels in the background. The two individuals are wearing space-themed costumes, typical of a science fiction genre from that era. The context suggests they are having a serious conversation, possibly discussing a mission or plan aboard the ship."

There is a long and storied history of whistles for protection. Ancient Egyptian guards used to place a blade of grass between the thumbs to alert other guards of issues that were transpiring. Later, shells were used to the same end. In China, acorns with holes drilled in them were used similarly.
As a dedicated instrument, whistles have been made of wood, bone, metal, and later, plastics. British bobbies have used whistles to communicate over distances since the 1880s. They are a commonly used tool for boatswains, crossing guards, and referees.
I wish I knew more about rape whistles, but they seem similar in functionality to hikers taking whistles with them in case of injury, as the sound carries much further than yelling, and is much less tiring.
As someone regularly stalked by a large creepy harasser, I am grateful for the whistle I was given for self-protection, even if the creeps who it was given to defend against resent the fuck out of it.
Fin.
