Obviously I don't know everything there is to know about Fediverse and ActivityPub. I don't have firsthand knowledge because I'm not a dev.
However, what I do have that a lot of others don't, is passion.
I am passionate about the Fediverse in a way that I don't think some people are. I want this platform to succeed and thrive because if it does, then so do I because then I get to interact with SO many more talented people!
THAT is what I'm advocating for. Open platform by default with the options to choose who you do or do not want to interact with and the content you do or do not want to see.
No *whispering sweet nothings into the algorithms ear*. No forced ads. No cookies to track me across websites.
This is the future of social media and if I'm the last damn person here, then sobeit. But I love most of you people here and I believe in all of you. I believe we can make this platform a safe, welcoming, open platform where we can share our lives, passions, jobs, and hobbies across the federated universe of social media.
The future is you. Without each of you. Fediverse wouldn't be where it is today and neither would I.

Jonathan Coulton's "Still Alive" (from Portal) is an Easter song, and the lyrics don't even require that much tweaking to work. Imagine Jesus singing it to all of humanity:
This was a triumph
I'm making a note here
"Huge success"
It's hard to overstate my satisfaction
My Father's Kingdom
We do what we must because we can
For the good of all of us
Except the ones who are dead
But there's no sense crying over every missed line
You just keep on trying till you run out of wine
And the tombstone grows moss and you make a neat cross
For the people who are still alive
I'm not even angry
I'm being so sincere right now
Even though you broke my heart
And killed me
And tore me to pieces
And threw every piece into a fire
As they burned it hurt because
I was so happy for you
Now, these points of data make a beautiful line
And we're out of beta, we're releasing on time
So I'm glad I got burned, think of all the things we learned
For the people who are still alive
Go 'head and leave me
I think I'd prefer to stay inside
Maybe you'll find someone else
To help you
Maybe Ron Hubbard?
That was a joke, ha-ha, fat chance
Anyway, this wine is great
It's so delicious and moist
Look at me, still talking when there's religion to do
When I look out there, it makes me glad I'm not you
I've experiments to run, there's salvation to be done
On the people who are still alive
And believe me, I am still alive
I'm doing preaching and I'm still alive
I feel fantastic and I'm still alive
While you're dying, I'll be still alive
And when you're dead, I will be still alive
Still alive
Still alive

@Rob200@mastodon.social I think my position is three points:
1. I don't want my kids on social media until they are older, probably at least age 13.
2. It would be a hell of a lot easier for them and me to keep them off social media if most/all other kids weren't on it (pressure of being the only one without it).
3. Parents should be able to make this decision for themselves and their kids.
Items 2 and 3 are at odds with each other. Not sure how to resolve.

I'm in bed with the flu and spent my time watching videos on Facebook. I got shown and reported so many fake online investment scam ads today, that Facebook blocks me from reporting more!
WTF? "Sorry, even if you think this is a crime, we don't want to know about it!"

God damn the spam bots on Mastodon are at another level these days. I don't think I've seen Mastodon like this before?
Does make me realise that @… could use better instance check and the availability to block an entire instance and report option which are missing.

I'm still wondering what would be the best approach towards unique #eMail addresses with my domain.
For a long time, I've been using the " " approach with #GMail but that sucks because:
• A fair number of sites reject e-mail addresses containing a " ", and at this point it's no longer a matter of copy-pasting poor snippets, but people explicitly blocking cheap unique addresses.
• It's quite obvious, and so people can easily take the "base" address out of it.
I'm considering three alternatives:
1. The catch-all, or opt-out approach — just grab mail from all possible addresses. Easy to set up, and lets me dynamically get unique addresses with no effort. On the minus side, it's going to get lots of #spam, and I'll end up having to block a lot of commonly used usernames.
2. Prefixed catch-all — grab mail from all possible addresses starting with a specific prefix. Somewhat similar to the " " approach, except without special characters and less obvious. Would combine being able to quickly make new addresses up, while filtering out most of the generic spam. On the minus side, I don't think most of the mail providers would actually support something like that.
3. Explicit addresses, or opt-in approach — create aliases explicitly whenever I need one. Lots of work, but probably the cleanest solution. I'd probably also have to have a handful of "free" aliases on me, in case I needed to quickly give someone a unique e-mail address.

I really hope we can get some good people from Threads to move over before Meta starts to do even more untrustworthy things.
Besides the absolutely absurdly move of following and pushing a fake"Fediverse" account that makes people think Fediverse is a single entity or organization, they've already started discussions about expansions to AP to allow platforms to support ads and other shitty ways of monetization.
Fedi needs to make money to survive, I know that. I am behind that, but ads are the shadiest of all the monetization methods because of tracking. Nobody wants to be tracked no matter how "innocent" their activities are.
They've been REALLY quiet since activating AP on their end in a seemingly bad faith move to make the Fediverse seem "useless and pointless to use" by forcing users to educate themselves on the Fediverse if they even know it exists while also making the option to turn it on obscenely hard to locate from normal use.
All in all, I'm VERY skeptical of Meta's intentions and don't really think they'll end up fully federating in the end becuase "why enable a feature that a wide number of our users think is a useless feature?". I feel right now is as far as they're gonna go with it, maybe worldwide, but still one way because that benefits them, not us, and they won't push a feature that people think is useless.
Obviously this is intentional bad faith tactics, but they still have time to prove me wrong and I really hope they do. I really really hope one day we get full federation, but I would be very delusional to have high hopes that such a thing will ever occur given this week's revelations.🤦‍♂️
