Good morning #Fediverse
How is everyone doing today and how was the weekend?
It's a new week, a new Monday, so let's talk about what the day has in store for us as well as the week ahead.
For me, it's work stuff and of course there is a meeting at 12pm EST, but it should be a good one so nothing to stress over.
I have a work assignment due by end of da…

An image that says Good Morning Monday on a white index card. There is a cup of coffee to the left, in a white cup on a white saucer. You can see part of a potted plant in the top right corner and all of this appears to be sitting on a wood table of some sort.

I think the sorta-vacation might be working. And maybe all that commuting on a cargo bike was a good idea. Been walking a fair amount in the last week, too. (For comparison, the night before travel, worried about getting ducks in a row, RHR was 65, so 14% from stress.)

Screenshot of Fitbit numbers, resting heart rate 57bpm, "below personal range", other numbers "in range", current heart rate 48bpm.

About life and feelings, gloomy and private
The feelings we get from the activities we do could be classified as neutral, positive and negative.
Let's take developing #Gentoo as an example. It's something that makes me happy — but you can't (or at least I can't) just get the happiness and reject everything else. Most of the Gentoo work is basically neutral, even bland — a duty that takes a lot of time and effort, and probably a little of your health. It's statistically probable that you're going to get some positive feelings out of it — the joy of success, satisfaction, appreciation, awareness that you've done something good. But you also get negative feelings — from failures, frustration, negative interactions.
My hiking trips are like that too. My family believes that "I do it for pleasure" — but it's a harmful oversimplification and it only tells me that they even aren't trying to understand me. In fact, it's mostly a necessity, a way of solving specific problems that works for me — halting diabetes-related problems, coping with emotions. Of course there's a positive side to it — good mood, energy to survive another day, something the joy of visiting a new place, seeing something beautiful, finding a solution to a vexatious problem, positive interactions with people. But there are also negative feelings — anger and sadness from failure, stress from problems, negative contacts with people. Sometimes you end up slowly charging your social battery for a whole week, just to have one person destroy it all.
If you think about it, life's something like that. It's mostly a bland effort to survive every following day, sometimes interspersed with positive or negative moments.

my dog loves to "dig" on the bed and my fitted sheets are getting ripped up after a while. I don't really want to prevent him from digging because apparently that's instinctive behavior and good for the dog to have the opportunity (I'd guess it's stress relief). do any of you have recommendations for sturdier sheets (cotton! i have sensory issues with polyester)?

uspol, 2024 elections
okay, so...
- senate: likely R
- president: likely R (dammit)
- house: toss-up
I am willing to be pleasantly surprised but it doesn't look good.
what the heck does that mean I'm supposed to do?
other important things:
- your state elections
- your county elections
- your municipality elections (yay, two nice progressive-ish ladies in city council!)
things I can do for 4 years of... stress...
geez the last one was not fun.

Good morning #Fediverse
How are we all doing today and what are your plans for the day ahead?
For me, it's the usual work stuff with a meeting at 12pm EST. Should be a pretty short meeting so nothing to stress over.
After that, not much else. Got all of the yard work done yesterday which I'll post pictures of here shortly.

No.
The fact that he thinks they could just reuse the steel of the old bridge is the best proof I have that Elon Musk is no sort of engineer.
The physical characteristics of a piece of metal change over time under stress, temperature cycling, and vibration. Even those pieces which are not visibly bent or cracked (good luck finding those) won’t match their original strengths.
