And like, don't get me wrong the story antagonists have been really weird and almost felt like pure bad luck or randomness as opposed to intentional persecution like in the first game. Until the Count and Countess showed up, so it would be a bit weird to end the game there. Still, the game set up there feels like an ending and ending there with a happy ending would be WAY better than what's going on after the "private meeting". Amicia would succeed where previous carriers and protectors failed. She'd write her story down for future carriers.
Even now after that final trauma they could make this work, with a happy ending after leaving the island. Hugo is back, back in control of the macula for now. It can work.
I guess I'll continue playing but ugh. I was in a good mood before but honestly everything after the Count just ruined my mood. I'm heading to sleep right now.

I'm honestly so sad that Mélie leaves... I literally cried today...
I just made my headcanon that they're still together, that Amicia was able to break Mélies anger down and go through the grief process together as girlfriends. That'd make sense as they went through things in common with Arthur disappearing and then after he was back Hugo disappeared, I wish we had more shown of them relating to each other and helping each other go through.
Well, better, my headcanon is that Arthur didn't die at all. But still, Amicia and Mélie should always stick together.
I went looking and apparently Mélie isn't even mentioned in Requiem, that sucks...
