== Food for thoughts ==
Tariffs equal more expensive laptops, which equals people opting for older machines, and older machines work terribly on Windows 11, but on Linux they work wonderfully, so Linux it is.
Makes you start to dream a bit, picture a renaissance of OS minimalism, DWM and i3 trending on TikTok. Influencers rocking Hyprland.

To paraphrase Barry Scwartz: The Paradox of Choice – Why More Is Less
With the continuous glitz of KDE, Hyprland, dwm, Slackware and Gentoo as daily drivers it's the time of year to start winding down.
Also because I've been revisiting Steve Anelay's videos (OldTechBloke, sorely missed) I'll spend a month on the Mate desktop, starting this Saturday.
But what to run it on? Help me make a choice, appreciated šŸ˜Ž

Jemand Erfahrung mit #Hyprland unter #FedoraLinux?
Wie findet ihr die Nutzendenerfahrung?

@… There's a wave of satisfaction engulfing me when I purge 486 fonts and related files. That's bloat for me; it was put there without me selecting it 🤪
The overall Slackware install, with Hyprland, labwc, niri and all applications I could possibly want still remains comfortably below 25 gb, video, music, some flatpaks also included. S…

recap from my weekend distro hopping (that was severely limited by the good weather):
- tried Hyprland: cool but I still don't care about tiling window managers; terminals have tabs, emacs is its own window manager, the rest can be full screen or half screen.
- cool to learn about "new" things like Universal Kernel Image, a bit about UEFI, etc.
- I don't like the LEGO approach to build a Desktop; I care about this as much as 10 years ago: 0

Order has been restored.
I'm sorry peeps, but no wifi or bluetooth are dealbreakers.
So, I'm getting there: number 3 is Slackware nwg, a GTK shell on top of (in my case) hyprland.
Another Slackeroni production (kudos to @… and @… !). Defying the idea that Slackware is a bit behind or so, running the 6.14.8 kernel, zram, pipewire, hyprland 0.49, you name it.
For this one I've chosen to let go of flatpak and use native packages (slackbuilds as well, obviously). It's all there.
Gentoo with dwm is the odd one out. Should anything happen there dwm will be loaded on Slack as well.

I've spent the day in my Slackware bubble; on this computer the latest hyprland with nwg-shell.
Of course all runs well; had some great hints and my dots were still available on my Codeberg.
Only one real challenge: installing all of the Rust stack (and that involves a ton of dependencies).
Not bcs I'm a dev, but because I want eza and have a go at wezterm šŸ˜† !
As you know, you'll have to install those separately and by yourself on Slackware. Keeps our garden nicely walled 😜
