Russia and Qatar leveraged their World Cups as sportswashing... a ball-and-cup trick swapping a troubled record for a month of hope and unity. Whatever the world thought of them going in, the spectacle helped to rewrite it.

This guy was on a one-man crusade to get doctors to setup NICUs and it took *40 years* for this country to decide that preemie babies are worth saving after all (Europe adopted these relatively quickly...we can thank eugenics in this country for the slow uptake). The whole episode is worth listening to.
