Trump’s cabinet meetings look like meetings of the Soviet or Northkorean politburo with ministers constantly praising the “great leader”. Painful to watch the once great USA going down the drain and transformation towards minimal authoritarian and probably a fullblown fascist state.

Early morning mail checks (before 07:00) is done only when I am on call and to see if there was any emergencies in the prior evening production run that I missed. When I do that my day starts at that time! I adjust the end of day time to allow for the early start. Normal hours for me is 07:00 to 15:30.

The meetings are the work. Sorry.
The fact that your org doesn't value meetings and doesn't put any effort into making them more effective is a symptom of a broader pattern of ignoring feminized "glue work" in favor of Big Masculine Outputs.

As for “but it's great for coding!“…
…world-wide there's about 3.6 billion jobs or so, of which ~25 million are in software development; this means maybe about 0.7% of all jobs world-wide can use "great for coding".
Writing actual code amounts to maybe, if you're lucky, 10% of the work a software developer does.
The rest is meetings, high-level specifications, email and chat, more meetings, learning new things, updating stuff, lots of testing and debugging, etc.
The gist is, the supposed gains from "AI" are completely irrelevant (and indeed there's signs and studies that show it doesn't do anything for programmer productivity either).
tl;dr: This is the worst economic bubble in history, pushing a dream of a magical technology that unfortunately doesn't work, by appealing to investor greed.

In two separate meetings this week it seemed like someone was arguing against a proposed change and in both cases, they were actually very supportive of the idea, and had already moved on to talk about what else could be done. Spousal conflit of interest issues aside for a moment... I may actually vomit if Danielle Smith's Alberta government introduces a “15-year master plan for introducing passenger trains across the province.“ when I have been advocating for this in BC for decades to absolute crickets (if not active denial) from all political parties in power.

[Thread] Cluely unveils a desktop AI assistant that it says can help users cheat on meetings, sales, lectures, interviews, learning new software, and more (Roy/@im_roy_lee)

Here are the three primary kinds of community-based events we’ll be sponsoring during 31 Days of Action:

Open/community lab meetings over Zoom or live-streamed lab tours/demos

Teach-ins at local community centers, churches, parks, basically anywhere that’s not a college campus

Stand Up For Science tabling and demos that include “Ask a Scientist” booths,
pond water under a microscope,
strawberry DNA extraction,
egg drop competitions, …

I just had this crazy idea: How about organizing and tracking meetings in #Gitlab?
Every meeting type has its own repo, discussion topics are issues, labels are used for organizing and prioritizing, a meeting is prepared in a branch, the meeting notes are in a merge request per topic (issue), at the end of a meeting the meeting branch is merged into main and a new release is done, a CI/CD pipeline publishes the meeting notes and communication.
Has anyone tried this?

#AskFedi: meeting-booking software like Calendly or SimplyMeet.me
I need to set up one of those things where other people can pick a time for us to meet.
I only need it for a few meetings on a few days, so I don't want to have to maintain an entire online calendar up-to-date just so that it can see where the gaps are. I want one which is easy to use as follows: I go into the thing itself and select a few chunks of time which _are_ available, it turns those into bookable slots.
I'd also like it to be easy to remove unbooked slots manually without messing up any adjacent booked ones.
Previously I've not even used this type of software the other way round, as the person booking someone _else's_ available time - so I'm starting fresh with looking into it!
I've got my eye on SimplyMeet.me, because the below Zapier article said it was a nicely customisable one and can do intake questions, which would be nice. Has anyone else used that?
Any other recommendations or pointers?
Thanks in advance for clues!
(boosts very welcome)

With his authority damaged by poor judgment, absence of leadership and a sheer lack of understanding of what the Labour party exists for, Starmer will stumble on weakened and directionless, convincing himself that sitting next to Trump and attending Nato and G7 meetings means he has a historic role to play.
