#Neuroscientists of the world - do you sometimes have questions about a new technique you're trying to setup in the lab? Or getting too much noise in your system and wondering why? Not sure why your rats / flies / humans are not learning? Which virus to get for your optogenetic experiment? How to stain brain slices? Whether an expensive piece of kit is worth buying? ...

#Dentist -related question, if given the choice with "amalgam" fillings or "white" fillings which one is better? 🦷
I would ask a dentist but since they get more money for using the white filling they don't seem completely unbiased..

Quite incredible that this guy ( #Thinkpad x200s) - who is now at least 12 years old - is still alive and kicking! :blobrat_aww:
Also, this was the best keyboard ever, the Lenovo keyboards have been downgraded since then to become blend just like any other laptop keyboard. The trackpoint still works perfectly on it while it doesn't on my more recent lenovo (T490s, about 6 y.o.).

Had to install #Windows11 and I am discovering that not only does it want to use my location, but also the only option is "Accept"
Like.. that's great, they give you the option to let it access your location (Yes) or not (No) but the only button you can click to move on, instead of being called "OK" as a normal OS would do, is called "Accept" 🤔

"Let microslop and apps use your location" with the options Yes, No, and two buttons at the bottom "learn more" and "Accept"

Hey all what's the best #PythonIDE for running #JupyterNotebooks without genAI?
Edit: never mind, for now I'm just using Jupyter Notebook, I just don't really understand why you'd want to code in a browser, or why you'd want all your functions and code and everything to…

Just saw that #genAI models now have a "how to protect the environment" suggestion... which suggests to use different genAI models 😇🤣🤦
You want to know the best way to save energy and protect the environment?

  • do not use genAI (use your own brain, or your friends')
  • while you're at it, protest all the data centers that are getting built to support all that "energy-saving"…
screenshot of some genAI coding platform, it says "Help save energy and protect the environment: use the simplest model that's good enough"
with a bunch of models listed below it, of course, there is no option to "use my own brain" which would *actually* save energy and protect the environment
A mashup of the Drake meme and the brain meme where Drake looks away in disgust when the option to "save energy and protect the environment" is to use a bunch of different genAIs, but then he validates the last option, "your own brain"
