A baby star's planet-forming disk has 3 times more water than all of Earth's oceans #space

Ice sheets are large masses and their gravity attracts ocean water
So the average sea level is higher closer to Greenland and to Antarctica.
But there is only a finite volume of water in the oceans, so a higher sea level close to the ice sheets means lower sea levels further away in the tropics for example.
As the ice sheet melts and gets smaller, its gravitational pull becomes smaller so the average height of the sea around Greenland and Antarctica is lower than it was befo…

I like the way Issac Authur uses the word "doable".
You wanna spin up the moon so it goes 30 times faster to give it a 24 hour day? Sure. That's doable.
Ship an oil-taker full of water onto the moon every second for thirty thousand years to create oceans? Yeah, doable, but you'd probably stop early because of property values.
Build a black-hole in the center of the moon to increase it's gravity to earth-levels? Doable. Just have to get the mass from Jupiter.

The fact that food is more expensive than cheap electronic junk is sign how our civilization failed.
I don't mean to say that food isn't valuable. However, it's absurd that stuff we don't need, these gadgets born of criminal exploitation of nature and people, living their short lives purely for the purpose of driving mindless consumption, and then piling up on landfills, and in oceans, are so cheap.

Warmer oceans might cause #glaciers to break apart more quickly.
A 6.5-mile #crack formed in 2012 on Pine Island Glacier— a retreating ice shelf that holds back the larger West Antarctic ice sheet — in about 5 and a half minutes.
The rift opened at about 115 feet per second, or about💥 80 miles per hour.💥

Serious question... if the AMOC shuts down, does Spain (the Iberian peninsula) become more temperate because northern Europe has more winter cold snaps as the jetstream flies further south more often, or does it become drier because there just isn't that much difference moisture wise... so essentially, desertification/expansion of the Sahara?

"U.S. ethane production, consumption, and exports set new records again in 2023"
U.S. ethane production rose 9% to average 2.6 million barrels per day (b/d) in 2023, driven by record natural gas production. In the United States, almost all ethane is recovered at natural gas processing plants, which remove ethane and other natural gas plant liquids (NGPL) from raw natural gas. The Texas Inland and New Mexico refining districts, which span the Permian Basin, accounted for 61% of all U.S. ethane production in 2023. Production in those districts averaged 1.6 million b/d in 2023…

Can we just give Boyan Salat a Nobel Prize already? A decade ago his Ocean Cleanup plans to tackle the 5 largest oceanic garbage patches - and the 1,000 rivers that feed most plastics into oceans - were just sketches. Now there are ops all over the world, extracting or intercepting *massive* amounts of plastics (the statistics and visuals in this video are stunning). It's some of the most effective environmental protection work being done anywhere.
