Ozone depletion began decades before discovery of ozone hole, scientists find
The Antarctic ozone hole was discovered in 1985, when scientists observed a severe depletion in Earth's protective layer of stratospheric ozone. Industrial chemicals known as chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), then widely used as refrigerants, propellants, foam-blowing agents and solvents, were at the root of the ozone depletion. After a concerted global effort to phase out the use of CFCs, ozone today is recovering, especially in the Antarctic.

Hurricane Marie brings dangerous ocean conditions, soggy weather to SoCal
The weather service has issued coastal flood and high surf advisories encompassing Santa Catalina and Santa Barbara islands,
Malibu, Los Angeles and Ventura County.
The advisories go into effect at 6 a.m. Saturday and run through 11 p.m. Tuesday.

#OpenAI claims it has solved the existence and smoothness problem for the Navier–Stokes equations, one of the seven million-dollar Millennium Prize problems. The proof hasn’t been verified and there’s apparently some drama surrounding who gets the credit if the proof is proven true.
