Abstract: In this paper, we introduce some type vector fields with respect to a semi-symmetric non-metric (SSNM) connection. We investigate several geometric properties of a K-contact manifold equipped with an SSNM connection and provide a concrete example to justify the relation between the scalar curvature of the SSNM connection and Levi-Civita connection that we have obtained in this paper. Furthermore, we have found the nature of Riemann solitons, conformal Ricci solitons and conformal $\eta$-Ricci-Yamabe solitons on K-contact manifolds admitting a SSNM connection.\\ Finally, we determine the necessary and sufficient conditions for such a manifold to be $\Tilde{\tau}$-semi-symmetric, quasi-conformal-semi-symmetric and pseudo-projective-semi-symmetric.

Random thought that goes interesting places:
There are a lot of cheap ways to spend money to drastically improve the quality of life for lots of people (UBI, mosquito nets, digging wells, etc.). Those people almost invariably become way more economically productive in aggregate when this happens, far above the costs involved, if you measure from the perspective of the affected group. So for billionaires looking for outsized returns on investments, why not simply spend on some of these programs, then invest in a broad index of socks that are going to go up as a result?
The answer could be "billionaires by their nature are too evil to think of this," which, could be true....
But I think there's a deeper answer, which is that there *is no* bundle of stocks that goes up as humans flourish. This is directly contrary to neoliberal economic doctrine/propaganda, but it also has an explanation that's obvious from the neoliberal doctrine itself: the stock market is a gambling arena for bets on corporate profits. Corporate profits are money taken in in excess of costs. But the value of a corporation is not produced abstractly by the mere existence of the organization; it's produced by the labor of humans working for the organization, with raw materials that the organization purchases. So to make a profit, an organization has to do some combination of paying its workers less than the value the create, and/or paying less for it's raw materials than they are really worth. The more it does these two things, the more profit it can generate.
Notice that these two profit-generating activities directly and indirectly immiserate humans, *and* that reducing human misery by means other than reducing these activities makes them harder. People who have other means of income won't sell their labor for less than it's worth, nor will they sell their resources below their fair value. Only desperate people will agree to terms that corporations require to be profitable.
This is not a "Marxist analysis" by the way; it's the direct application of the basic principles taught in any neoliberal introductory macroeconomics class.
In any case, once we understand that the stock market is "gambling on how much corporations can exploit their employees/suppliers/customers", it's clear why you can't make money from stock investments in companies that profit from flourishing humans: profit is by construction made of human misery.
It also explains a lot of other things, like why private US employers who pay huge amounts of payroll towards health insurance for their employees would be *against* public health insurance that would offload those costs onto all taxpayers: the amount they're able to lower wages as a result of desperation for access to health care is more than worth the direct costs.
This is the central reason why capitalism (defined as: a system where money equals power) is inimical to human happiness: it allows profits built on suffering to be converted into the power to maintain the system of suffering and even extend and intensify it, creating a feedback loop of extractive domination.
Now I'm sure some people might read this and think: what about the good companies? The ones that pay their workers and suppliers a fair wage, and sell their products at fair prices? Even putting aside the fact that such a thing seems less believable than a unicorn these days, such a company by definition does not make a profit. The fair wage for its workers is the value they add to the raw materials it buys, and the fair price for those is the selling price of the finished product minus the value the company adds. The balance sheet will read exactly zero at the end of the day if compensation is actually fair. You can still run a company like this in theory, and even grow it, but of course under capitalism it will just get bought out by an unethical company that is profitable. Could you in some kind of utopian dream world run a tightly regulated series of markets where you have most of what people think capitalism is, without the bad parts? Maybe, but it definitely wouldn't involve actual capitalism, and it wouldn't have a stock market.

There is more to #SolarPunk than solar panels and bikes. What we are talking about is being part of a living world. The hegemonic culture is one of hierarchical domination.
But many of the the cultures that hegemony suppresses bring a vibrancy to life. I don't buy yeast from the store, sealed in a plastic packet, a coffin for a living thing. I feed my sourdough. I am obligated to it, in a relationship with it, as the culture is reliant on me for it's survival. It speaks to me, with smell and color. I must pay attention. I have to learn it's nature, how it grows and eats at different temperatures informed by different times of the year. Mushrooms, yeast, kiefer, plants, independent things, things I can't control, life that is intertwined with my own.
But even my #bicycle speaks to me, which is something I hadn't considered until reading this and thinking about that framing.
It is not simply that "we need a different economic system." What we are talking about is a fundamentally different interpretation and experience of the world, from the hierarchical structure of death to a web of life, where even "inanimate" things become imbued with agency.

Isomorphic Emergence of Lorentz and Gauge Symmetries--A Constructive Interpretation Based on Continuum Mechanics

Abstract: Lorentz symmetry and gauge symmetry constitute the mathematical cornerstones of modern physics, yet their ultimate physical origins remain elusive. From the standpoint of a constructive interpretation, this paper demonstrates that both symmetry structures can emerge isomorphically from a unified classical source: dynamical constraints on wave-packet excitations in a continuous elastic substrate medium (SM). Neither symmetry is posited as fundamental, nor does their emergence rely on quantization. Three core results are established. First, taking the transverse wave speed of a homogeneous, isotropic SM as the benchmark under a conventionalist synchronization scheme, Minkowski-type spacetime arises isomorphically, with Lorentz transformations as effective coordinate transformations between inertial frames. This reinterprets the Michelson--Morley null result: observers are composite wave-packet excitations, and medium-induced kinematic corrections are encoded in their measurement frameworks. Second, for wave packets endowed with $SU(N)$ intrinsic symmetry, the requirement of identity invariance drives the SM to spontaneously generate gauge fields. This requires invariant equivalence classes of intrinsic states under propagation, yielding gauge structures isomorphic to Yang-Mills theory. The gauge group $SU(N)$ is uniquely determined by the number of stable normal modes supported by the medium. Third, through the same conventionalist measurement protocols, inhomogeneous distributions of the SM emerge isomorphically as curved spacetime geometry, governed by Einstein-type field equations from variational extremization of the medium's deformation free energy. This paper advances a unified interpretive account of the physical origin underlying the mathematical structures of both Relativity and the Standard Model.

The Impact of Circumgalactic Rotation on Ly$\alpha$ Radiative Transfer

Abstract: Hydrogen Lyman-alpha (Ly$\alpha$) is a prominent emission line from the circumgalactic medium (CGM). Due to its resonant nature, Ly$\alpha$ carries imprints of the physical properties and kinematics of the cold CGM. In particular, CGM rotation can modify the Ly$\alpha$ peak separation, which is often interpreted as a tracer of H I column density. We present 3D Monte Carlo Ly$\alpha$ radiative-transfer simulations in a CGM-like rotating medium and examine how the emergent spectra depend on rotational velocity ($V_{\rm rot}$), H I column density ($N_{\rm HI}$), viewing angle, clumpiness, and intrinsic source width. We find that rotation broadens the integrated spectra and increases the peak separation, with the strongest viewing-angle dependence when rotational Doppler shifts dominate over frequency diffusion. At high $N_{\rm HI}$, numerous scatterings reduce the sensitivity of integrated spectra to rotation, producing a degeneracy between $V_{\rm rot}$ and $N_{\rm HI}$. Consequently, Ly$\alpha$ peak separation alone can overestimate $N_{\rm HI}$ in a rotating medium. Spatially resolved halo spectra provide a clearer diagnostic: opposite sides of the rotating medium show systematic redshifted and blueshifted asymmetries associated with the line-of-sight velocity of the last-scattering gas. Such rotation-driven signatures can also contribute to velocity-map patterns often interpreted in terms of inflow or outflow, highlighting the need to consider rotation in spatially resolved Ly$\alpha$ observations. We further show that the main signatures persist in simple clumpy media, while the halo signatures are largely insensitive to the intrinsic source width. Our results demonstrate that spatially resolved Ly$\alpha$ observation is essential for disentangling CGM rotation from radiative-transfer effects.
