An interesting survival mechanism of zooplankton is the production of resistant resting or diapause eggs. Calanoid and harpacticoid copepods, rotifers, and cladocerans (as ephippia) do this when conditions are poor due to overcrowding, predation, drought, or water quality. I got most of the photos for the Danby Down and Dirty 2025 at the Pinnacles but after the 10k runners had passed I started walking back to towards the start and got pictures of some 23k runners with a street photography technique
