I think a key reason the AI grift is so devious it it's built on top of an actual product that does have some utility. The grift just promises far more than AI is actually capable of in the foreseeable future.
Previous grifts like crypto and NFTs were entirely vaporware, but when we see AI generated images and text in the wild, it takes a more nuanced understanding to navigate the hype.
