Question for Fedi:
What is the best way to get started with self-hosting PeerTube? I have an S3 compatible storage thing setup (Backblaze B2 - love it!), so mostly concerned about transcoding - I have a Digital Ocean droplet which is fine for websites, but not great for more intensive stuff. How intensive is transcoding and can I do that locally and just upload all versions to B2 and skip transcoding altogether?

I almost signed up for Gaggle Mail even though it's US-based. I figured at least they seem to have good sense in seeing the value of email for discussion groups. And then while trialing I saw they have a function to summarise email discussions via ChatGPT that is *turned on by default*. I mean, wtaf.
So I'm deciding on self-hosting Mailman. It always seems to come back to self-hosting in the end, doesn't it... which is not nearly easy enough for most people to grapple with.

I fell down the self-hosting (at home) rabbit hole.

I had some weird ass Jellyfin issues so I tried to log into my NAS with the web interface to check on it and could not... so I SSH'd into it to do a reboot and somehow instead rebooted the computer I was sitting at. Went to a different computer to try and that one was powered off. Went back to the one I rebooted on accident and it didn't reboot so I started it up. Went back to the other one and it was up so I used that one.
Self hosting puts you in control.

Stel, ik ga serieus nextcloud selfhosten thuis, dan wordt de betrouwbaarheid wel belangrijk. Zou een nas met raid5 externe backup op stackstorage.com voldoende zijn?
Heeft iemand ervaring met self hosting thuis?
Ik denk tenminste dat ik het thuis wil, want het wordt vast heel duur om dit extern te hosten

So, with the Discord thing rn I guess teh closest we have to an alternative is like Zulip? Except it's more self-hosted focused.
So, is anyone around here hosting a Zulip (or other real, feature-complete, discord alternative that I don't know yet) instance open to (or even better, focused on) small-ish kink communities?
I have some friends on discord that I really wanted to migrate somewhere else.
I thought about hosting one in my NAS, but even if cgnat wasn't a thing actively moderating porn-focused places seems like a nightmare so I'd want something hosted by someone with a bit more experience on that such as moderating fedi servers or something. I guess some people who host fedi instances probably also host chat rooms right?
