On vacation in Australia and out on a road trip to the Blue Mountains. Sadly the weather gods did not cooperate and it's been raining and foggy the whole day. So just hibernating in our Airbnb and hoping that tomorrow's weather forecast of cloudy but dry does hold.

President Lai Ching-te of Taiwan had planned to make brief stops in New York and Dallas next month, en route to and from Latin America,
hoping to demonstrate the island’s strong ties with the United States in defiance of China.
But the Trump administration,
which is focused on talks with Beijing over trade and a possible summit,
told Mr. Lai to cancel his proposed stopover in New York,
Mr. Lai canceled his whole trip.
The hints of tension between Taipei and …

The only way Microsoft should be involved in a European Sovereign Tech Fund is if we fund it by taxing the living shit out of them.
But having them organise and influence it (and who gets funded by it), thereby de facto giving Microsoft EU taxpayer subsidies? Get the fuck out of here.
There are no words to describe how angry this attempt at corporate capture gets me when we’ve been working on sovereign tech in the EU for the past seven years with zero EU funding (not for lack of …

I recently saw a news story (CHEK News, Victoria, Porter Air) about a couple denied boarding because they could not produce the credit card used to book the flight.
According to experts, this was illegal in Canadian law. The airline's “tariff" — the actual contract between air carrier and passenger — had no such requirement.
The Canadian Transportation Agency lists the tariffs for 116 airlines. Might be worth having one literally in your back pocket when you fly.

The Student Agency building is the first thing if you head out of Cornell towards Collegtown -- tomorrow I'm hoping to post some photos of a big yellow crane that just went up in this neighborhood but I've got to get through photos of my trip to Newark Valley and Oakley Corners State Forest first
#photo

A 7 story or so broad building had brown bricks at the the top and a sign that reads THE STUDENT AGENCY BUILDING, below that the front has a glass facade that reflects a sky with clouds and towards your right, a red brick facade. In front find a Hertz rental van, a garden of brownish green (color graded) foliage and a road. Above: a subdued (color graded) blue sky with a few clouds, Behind: other buildings a little less tall and some parked cars.

After 2 weeks of having my office deconstructed and scattered across three rooms downstairs while the upstairs gets the ceiling scrapped and the walls painted, I'm ecstatic to be slowly moving my stuff back in!
1st thing I set up? The record player, of course!
I finally get to listen to the three records I picked up on a weekend trip.

As that happens, the European Union is trying to position itself at the center of a new global trade map.
