@… I'm using groups.io for the first time. (I know! Sorry, I usually avoid mailing lists.) It's very good, thank you for running this valuable service.
I found the locked topics feature very interesting. It never occurred to me to have that in a mailing list, since the underlying tech doesn't allow it. Does it work well in practice? Do people use it? The group I'm on uses it extensively.

I know dunking on Google's AI summaries is cheap, but this did give me a chuckle:

For unordered interactions in computing, "Mailbox Types" refer to formal ways to describe and analyze message-passing systems (like actors) with selective, concurrent, and potentially unbounded message processing, ensuring properties like deadlock freedom, contrasting with simple FIFO queues; examples involve type systems for calculi like the asynchronous π-calculus, defining behaviors for tagged messages and complex interactions. In contrast, real-world systems like Office 365 have functional …

I just found out that in old planes, flight computers were programmed with audio cassette tapes 😯 which now makes me want to look up how data recording on MCs worked on the C64 (before my time).
I remember that in the 90s, I tried to run "play.exe word.doc" to get my SoundBlaster card to write to my cassette tape. Which of course didn't work.
I bet there is a FOSS project that backups and restores to audio cassettes.
Well, I guess now I know how I'll spend my…

Today is going to be a good day for several large (very large) shots of Scotch.
Working with client for a test file and asked questions on how we are to set up the test environment. It hit me after I asked that I didn't even know what the hell those changes to the files were for.
I checked our current release documents and the next release documents. Zero notes on the changes. I am the release coordinator and I remember nothing on the topic for the current two releases. …
