What a trip down memory lane tonight watching the first two parts of #liveaidat40 It was part nostalgia but also part education as the politics washed over me at the time. I was 13/14, and if Simon le Bon was on screen all other thoughts left the room. I find it fascinating now watching docus about the 80s and understanding the background to the happy, if sheltered, life I led.

By-the-way, it is clear that we are experiencing the end of Democracy and rise of Dictatorship in the US.
We have long observed the rise of large corporations as a class of privileged nobility.
And now we are watching the onset of governance by artificial "intelligence".
Perhaps we will resume democracy, but unless we change our ground rules - such as our Constitution - the power of corporations and, now, AI's will remain a serious problem.

Seventeen seasons is a very long run too.
Another eight episodes of the gang all being mean to each other and talking over each other and getting into farcical scrapes.
The dinner party rehearsals were the funniest bit. Slowly A/B testing and audience reaction tests, that's how to make art. 😆
Not sure I'd say the show is mostly funny these days, but their bitching meanness to each other is comfortingly familiar.
