"The attorney general is the people’s attorney, not the president’s attorney,”
as former Vermont Sen. Patrick Leahy put it in 2017.
But Trump and Bondi clearly agree that she’s there to work for him,
to protect him, to spare him from the very law enforcement that she is responsible for.
It hearkens back to the medieval model of attorney general as legal representative to the king.
This is the rotten core of Trump
-- beneath all the makeup and slurre…

i agree that this is depressing, but i don't think AI is the _cause_. this problem started when we collectively decided to gatekeep social and physical mobility with higher education
i went to university ~15 years ago. a naive idiot, i thought that i'm there to learn. eventually one of my parents casually admitted that university is for getting connections--i think the parent who was doing a PhD at the time, too

I agree with the storyteller: the experience of having a slave is abhorrent, simulated or not, and this story is a window into something •deep• about the present moment. Even without having slaves, we are all in danger of having a •slaver mindset•. It’s a disease that’s running rampant now in billionaire-shaped techno-utopian circles.
I wrote this thread on the topic earlier:

…and even having written that, it’s still shocking — not surprising, exactly, but shocking — to hear those thoughts expressed so baldly by the colleague in the story above.

[M]any consumers might not realize the privacy risks just by glancing at the flyer sent to them, according to Florian Schaub, associate professor at the University of Michigan School of Information.
"The privacy policy is very specific that we're going to track everything, including what you do in Incognito Windows. Previously anonymous data may now be identifiable. All those risks are not disclosed here," Schaub said, after reviewing a copy of the flyer.

@… Thanks, they are in California.

My primary reason for searching for an EU-based service is to support services closer to home. In terms of privacy/security, the email part really renders that null and void so I could essentially go with anyone as long as I agree with their values and ethics 😁

I agree with the wish expressed here, that this year will bring a reckoning to Trump and the other named. Let’s add Putin to that list, too.
But one thing that frightens me — I suspect there people in Trump’s circle who know that US voters are unlikely to turn on their own president in wartime, and one sure-fire way for an unpopular president to turn the tide is to lead the nation in a righteous battle against an obvious enemy.
It could be Venezuela, it could be Iran, it could be…

With astonishing speed, the administration has toppled the most cherished pillars of a free society.
And as you know: It’s all going to get much, much worse.

As Enrique Peñalosa, former mayor of Bogotš, said (and Gustavo Petro repeated):
“An advanced city is not one where the poor can get around by car, but one where even the rich use public transportation.” sfba.social/@markmetz/11549363

All immigration officers on the ground in Minneapolis will be equipped with body cameras, Kristi Noem, the homeland security secretary, said on Monday.
Ms. Noem said that the change would be effective immediately and that the program would be expanded nationwide “as funding is available.”
“We will rapidly acquire and deploy body cameras to DHS law enforcement across the country,” she said in a social media post.
The announcement came in response to concern and outrage among…
