Wait there’s a second Epstein Island AI pioneer? Who also was Chief Learning Officer at… Trump University?
Can’t make this up.

Another one of the disgruntled OG AI computer scientists was Karl Steinbuch, who made one of the first implementations of a neural network.
He was also an ardent Nazi and directly ordered war crimes in the Second World War.
After his research stalled he wrote many racist, misogynist and xenophobic articles for the rest of his life.
He won many awards.

some guy is putting placards all over the Mission labeling sidewalk plants with their common and scientific name and a QR code to his vibe-coded AI landscaping service.
not only does he seem to have nothing to do with the planting of the plants, he can't tell which ones are weeds and has faithfully labeled a "Spiny sowthistle (Sonchus asper)" ahaha

"During his time at IBM, he wrote some of the first artificial intelligence software—his "geometry theorem machine" was the first advanced AI program, and the third AI program ever. It is a logical AI system that can prove theorems in planar geometry about parallel lines, congruence, and equality and inequality of segments and angles. Like Logic Theorist, it uses heuristics."

It's interesting how much Wikipedia's list of LLM catchphrases comes straight out of academic writing jargon.
Probably as a lot of the corpus that was mined for the LLM training goes back to the academic literature thanks to Sci-Hub et al.

Finally cancelled my Ideogram subscription today, I've had it for the past 12 months and loved it.
Now I'm using ChatGPT 4o almost exclusively for my AI image generation needs.
I updated my paid subscriptions list:
wiki.wesfryer.com/subscription

Screenshot of Ideogram.ai billing history showing a list of monthly subscription payments. The subscription changed from 'Ideogram Basic - monthly' at $8.00 on May 28, 2024, to 'Ideogram Plus - monthly' at $12.00 on May 28, 2024, and then to $20.00 starting June 28, 2024, continuing consistently through May 28, 2025. All payments are marked as 'Paid' with green labels. The Ideogram.ai logo is prominently displayed at the top in bold yellow and black text.

What thought-terminating clichés are used to prevent critiquing #AI and #LLM ?
I can think about one or two, but I'd love to hear if there are more in circulation...

Every time I see people voicing concerns about AI calling it the "AIpocalypse", I see this: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alpocaly

I coined a new phrase!
Basilisk puppet (n). A person who relentlessly shills for artificial intelligence. Makes strong claims that general AI is happening any day now or that existing AIs can make everyone more efficient and happier. See also Roko's Basilisk.

As everyone, the #FSF infrastructure is suffering because of 'AI' crawlers:
«Our infrastructure has been under attack since August 2024. Large Language Model (LLM) web crawlers have been a significant source of the attacks»
«the server behind the Free Software Directory, has been under attack since June 18. This likely is an LLM scraper designed to specifically target Media Wiki sites with a botnet. This attack is very active and now partially mitigated.»
