When we were planning the August edition of @protocolsforpublishers.com we knew that being in the US wasn’t going to work for a lot of people.
@chadkoh.com is running with it & now has set a date for London in early February.

Is it wrong that I have mixed feelings about this?
`cuz they’re only a little mixed and I suspect I’m too positive.

It's the beginning of the month again and that means new bills for the servers! We have various expenses and moderation work unfortunately takes up a lot of time, which is why we would be very happy about a little support! :boost_requested:

Dean of St. Philip's Cathedral in Atlanta, The Very Rev. Sam Candler ’82 M.Div. would rather bless than curse. "People learning how to pray together, serve together, get angry together, and love together—that’s what’s going to save the world,” he says.

I feel awful for our expert civil servants who faithfully served our country only to be fired by unqualified, uncaring, irresponsible men who couldn't even make it one year doing government work.
Looking at you Elon and retiring FBI director Dan Bongino.

A minimal wake-vortex model explains formation flight of flapping birds

Abstract: Collective patterns of motion emerge across biological taxa: insects swarm, fish school, and birds flock. In particular, large migratory birds form strikingly ordered V-shaped formations, which experiments and direct numerical simulations have demonstrated provide substantial energetic benefits during long-distance flight. However, the precise aerodynamic and morphological mechanisms underlying these benefits remain unclear. In this work, we develop a reduced-order model of the wake-vortex interactions between two flapping birds flying in tandem. The model retains essential unsteady flapping dynamics while remaining computationally tractable. By optimizing over a six-dimensional state space, which comprises the follower's three-dimensional relative position and three independent flapping parameters, we identify the energetically optimal leader-follower configuration of northern bald ibises. The predicted optimum agrees quantitatively with live-bird measurements. Because of its simplicity, the model allows for direct interrogation of the physical mechanisms responsible for this optimum. In particular, it isolates precisely how the follower's wing kinematics interact with the leader's wake to enhance aerodynamic efficiency. The model predicts an 11% reduction in total mechanical power for a follower in formation flight -- consistent with experimental estimates -- and shows that this saving arises from reductions in both induced and profile power, dominated by decreased profile power enabled primarily through reduced flapping amplitude and, secondarily, reduced upstroke flexion. These results provide a mechanistic explanation for the structure of V-formations and offer new insight into the aerodynamic principles governing collective flight.

We've been playing around with stream settings for the past week. Here are the best settings we've tested for streaming #LOTRO and other games from #Linux. They should work well on Windows as well. Remember, if you're on Nvidia, replace the "VAAPI" with "HVENC".
I would recommend against doing any work to view any “secret videos” that are in any way associated with any child sexual abuse case. @… https:…

Deciding when to recess the House to "district work periods" isn't some inherent or longstanding power of the Speaker.
It was only added to the rules for the first time in this Congress.
Otherwise this would have required the full House to vote on it, which could have been defeated.
As expected, in order to avoid a vote on extension of the ACA,
Mike Johnson is gaveling the House into recess.
