Every time I see people posting on the internet about cast iron skillets, I am reminded that people genuinely seem to think they're mystical objects that either must be babied or need incantations to work properly. All of these conversations miss why your grandparents had a badass cast iron skillet.

This reminds me of the story of Ireland’s first equal pay regulator. Before joining the EEC (the EU, as was) it was national policy to pay women less than men. One of the prices the Europeans demanded of membership was that policy be scrapped and a regulator be installed to enforce equal pay.
