Does the DNC want to play 1840’s Whigs?
Because redoing party internal processes to dislodge a firebrand is a great way to inspire a hard schism.
But hey, I’m no Dem…
But, they were evil. Even if you happen to be descended from them. They did a definitively evil thing, and it was a defining choice of their lives. Everyone knew that the war was about continuing and entrenching slavery. More than any modern war, it was feasible for conscripts to escape service, either by paying or by running west.
I guarantee that every person reading this has some evil ancestor.
Get over yourself, JD.

Sending “300 now, 2000 eventually” into a dynamic environment where there could easily be 10X as many hostiles is a recipe for disaster. Maybe an intentional one to generate a Reichstag Fire event.

I built most of my #Sysadminnery finger memory in commercial Unices. Some of that stuff just never goes away. I can't give up netstat and ifconfig either.

I have ~15 times as many *new* networks (by route) caught trying to get my users’ mail today than is normal. I’m up to blocking 4771 (includes some aggregation) and some days don’t get *ANY* new ones.

I am no Sun Tzu but I am pretty sure that if you show your adversary that you are weak but will be getting stronger soon, you are likely to provoke immediate action before you are reinforced.

She’s right, you know.
We don’t need a general solution for how we accommodate trans kids in sports. It can be handled on a case by case basis. It’s being hypothesized into absurd scale to trigger reaction. There’s no “catastrophe” possible. There are a few dozen specific cases and they are different enough that they should be handled independently.
The details in real cases always seem to argue in favor of the trans kid’s choice.
This might also explain why #OpenAI pushed ChatGPT to market before it was worth touching. If you can’t afford testing at scale, why not do a huge free public release so that you can call the last 80% of the dev effort “product support" which should be fully expensible.
NOTE: I AM NOT A TAX EXPERT AND THE ABOVE COULD BE ABSURD.
The Internet IS a *set* of physical things that can be blown up by bombs.
However, where there used to be about a dozen places where you’d need to plant a substantial bomb to wreck the Internet, while now there are hundreds you’d need to hit simultaneously to affect most users. It isn’t even really feasible to figure out where those places all are, because the live interconnections are so complex and the fallback links are entirely invisible normally.
I maintain a heterogeneous MSP environment for backup which consists of a collection of sh scripts (they mostly run on FreeBSD) with (c) notes dating back to 2004, with 5 authors, 4 of whom are no longer my cow-orkers. As the unfortunate 5th, I am still doing tweaks to catch edge & corner cases >20y after the 1st author had the idea that rsync, shell, mt, & standard POSIX tools could be assembled into a decent free backup world.
Use Python. Or Go. Or even Perl.
It is not AI that is driving tech layoffs. It’s the massive change in R&D writeoff rules that kicked in for TY2022, from the 2017 Trump tax bill.
The ability to “expense” R&D costs was in place for decades and arguably drove US innovation by making it cheap. Now R&D is amortized over 5 years for US work, 15 years for non-US work. The current reconciliation bill would bring back expensing of domestic R&D costs.
Wow, this is a first. A site I actually want to see (archive.ph) is using an IP address on the @… DROP list.

Are we actually sure that Greenblatt, Bove, and Miller are distinct individuals? Have they ever been seen in a room together?

Having the roof of our Family Room/Office replaced today. It’s a ~55yo addition with a flat roof that we did not have re-roofed when we had the rest of the house done a dozen years ago. It desperately needed replacement. We had no interior leaks, but our latest vermin genocider pointed out that our refractory raccoon problem was enhanced by rotting roof wood that they can smell out and scratch holes through.
It’s very distracting to have all this noise above my head.
