"Israel and America’s war with Iran is not just a strategic throw of the dice. It is a fundamental shift in how power operates in a multipolar world. Though a transition toward new models of collective security remains theoretically possible, as the foundations of US global hegemony wither under Donald Trump the current trajectory favours entropy over order. The danger is not merely in acts of war, it is also in the chaos they leave behind."

Protect your privacy – browsers and search engines

Surveillance has always been a core part of fascist regimes. This is still true today, but is even more dangerous due to new data aggregation and AI technologies. The Internet sites you visit and the things you search for become a part of the larger surveillance database of your activities. You can take action now to reduce the risk to yourself, your friends and your loved ones while you browse the Internet. You should start now …

I think the new light bars on the front of Tesla and other new cars are silly (and perhaps even dangerous - I find that they diminish my ability to estimate distance to the vehicle at night.)
In any case, I wonder whether there is, or soon will be, modification kits to replicate Gort's visor's light bar, as seen in the clip below...

Similarly, hostility to education cloaks itself as support by saying that education should be useful, should be practical, should be focused only on what students need, should be narrowed to what students need, should narrow students, should narrow students into being only what capitalism needs.
I wrote extensively about this dangerous line of thought here:

The connection between the language in which we think/program and the problems
and solutions we can imagine is very close. For this reason restricting
language features with the intent of eliminating programmer errors is at best
dangerous.

"Meanwhile, accounts for the first quarter of this year show Tesla earned $595m from regulatory credits - almost 50% more than its net earnings of $409m - suggesting that without the subsidy Tesla would be operating in the red."

PSA: 🥵 Idk who needs to hear this, but in a heatwave for the love of science use air conditioning. If you don’t have air conditioning, get a portable unit as soon as possible.
The climate is going to get hotter and heat can very easily kill you or a loved one or a pet; or cause permanent disability.
Heat is a lot more dangerous than cold temperatures; even if you’re “young and healthy”.
The climate is already fucked and has long reached a tipping point as far as humans go—our only bet is large-scale CO2 extraction.
Sacrificing your health “to save energy*” for an imaginary fight that we have already lost is stupid. It’s also one of those “individual responsibility” mindfucks—the culprits for pollution are industry maximizing profits and governments that are not acting.
Anyway, stay cool.
*note that AC uses overall a lot less energy than heating does

After Donald Trump pulled the nomination of tech entrepreneur Jared Isaacman for the post, the president announced Duffy would be the interim NASA administrator.
Trump made the announcement on Truth Social, praising the former Real World cast member: “Sean i…

There's always a problem of referring to someone who should not be named.
Perhaps iconography might help, such as "🟠💩for 🧠s".
As in "Those who show up at immigration courts are not the dangerous thugs 🟠💩for 🧠s said were the targets"

If you always have all your digital stuff set to English you may not be aware of how often those of us who use multi-lingual interfaces come across bad auto-translation that force us to do a double-take. (worst case they can of course be very dangerous).

This is from an email log in Gmail today.

The label "Delstat" is presumable from "State" in English, meaning what condition/status the email is in.

But delstat in Swedish essentially refers to U.S.…

Finished “Lloyd McNeil’s Last Ride” by Will Leitch.
Lloyd McNeil is a cop who has just been diagnosed with a terminal illness and weeks to live. Realizing his paltry assets and limited life insurance won’t help his son much, he learns that being killed on duty absolutely will. A plan is hatched. But charging into dangerous situations keeps making him a hero instead.
Enjoyable. Leitch always writes great characters.

Sorry for posting so many YouTube videos but this is great and geeky: a video essay about "Akira elevators", those platforms that travel horizontally and vertically at the same time. I remember the Half-Life example and the original from Akira. They are an awesome design but a bit like mechas they are futuristic tools that feel incredibly dangerous to build as a means to transport humans.

You know what truly annoys me?
Well, a lot of things, but here I'm thinking of people who enjoy killing little creatures.
And I'm not talking about killing some animal because it's actually dangerous, or is causing some real harm, or even because it stings painfully or is annoying like a fly. I'm talking about people who laugh when they kill a spider or a "bug" (which usually means some harmless beetle), because it dared show in their homestead.
Not to mention all the people who would prefer that all the harmless Polish snakes (and slow worms, because if it has no legs, then it's obviously a "snake") or they'll "bite the children".
