He collapsed shortly before Christmas, and he’s been in and out of the vet school since then. They have no idea why he collapsed (and he’s not done it again since); but on top of a slightly enlarged pulmonary artery, and unknown markings on his spleen and liver, he has a number of growths in his lung that are almost certainly cancer. He’s started to cough. 1/2

Maybe an year ago, I was listening to an interview with Albanese where she spoke how powerless she was to stop genocide in Gaza. I thought that as an UN rapporteur, she only had to try and would change much. Later she tried, and got smashed by US politics in a blatant eradication of any civic common sense.
I guess I feel that in some way it is my fault. People like me who have encountered her have nudged her, and now she pays the price. I still feel it is a small price one in her posit…

Abstract: We initiate the study of partial fraction decompositions (PFDs) in several variables using tools from commutative algebra. We give criteria for when a rational function with poles on a hyperplane arrangement has a desirable PFD. Our criteria are obtained by examining the primary decomposition of ideals coming from hyperplane arrangements. We then present an algorithm for finding a PFD that satisfies properties desired by physicists, and demonstrate the effectiveness of this algorithm for computing large examples coming from Feynman integrals.

A question about Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act of 1996....
That section creates an immunity for website operators who are essentially just pass-through for material created by others. I'm fine with that.
But I'm wondering about whether Section 230 provides that protection to website operators, such as Substack, that take a cut of the revenue generated by that material through subscriptions and other access fees?
A similar question applies to sites, …

It's not hard to calculate. How much money is each person, man, woman, and child paying for the US military under trump?
Right now the US is spending one $TRILLION each year on the military: That's this many dollars, each year:
$1,000,000,000,000
We have roughly 330,000,000 people in the US.
That means each of us is paying about $3000 each year to pay for the US military.
So a family of four is paying about $12,000/year.

Abstract: In this paper, we characterize all graphs $G$ satisfying \[\operatorname{reg}(S/J_G)=\ell(G)=c(G)\] where $\ell(G)$ is the sum of the lengths of the longest induced paths in each connected component of $G$ and $c(G)$ is the number of the maximal cliques of $G$. We also characterize all connected graphs $G$ that satisfy \[\operatorname{reg}(S/J_G)=\ell(G)=|V(G)|-\omega(G) 1\] where $\omega(G)$ is the clique number of $G$. Moreover, we investigate the possible values of the regularity of $S/J_G$ within the intervals $[\ell(G), c(G)]$ and $[\ell(G), |V(G)|-\omega(G) 1]$.

Abstract: Given a standard graded algebra over a field, we consider the relationship between G-quadraticity and the existence of a Koszul filtration. We show that having a quadratic Gr\"obner basis implies the existence of a Koszul filtration for toric algebras equipped with the degree reverse lexicographic term order and for algebras defined by binomial edge ideals. We also resolve a conjecture of Ene, Herzog, and Hibi by constructing an example where this implication fails. These results are underpinned by algorithms we develop for constructing Koszul filtrations. We also demonstrate the utility of these algorithms on the pinched Veronese algebra.

I live in California.
California was extorted from Mexico by the so-called "Mexican War" or 1846.
President, US Grant - yes that Grant from the Civil War - said that the 1846 Mexican War was the most unjust war he had ever seen. And Grant was right, it was a pretext war to take land from Mexico.
So I am wondering when Mexico will do a snatch and grab on El Cheato and take over the running of California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, and parts of Nevada and Utah.

From various rumors and sources it appears that Open AI - a company organized under Delaware law but with HQ in California - is the cause of the tripling of computer memory prices and shortages.
Word is that Open AI bought up all of the large wafers from Samsung and Hynix that are used to make memory. The intention seems to be to corner the market in order to hobble Open AI's competition.

Just a reminder:
Each of you ought to take a look at your state's "unclaimed property" website. You may find something owed to you or to someone you know.
The amounts can be trivial or they can be large - and you won't know until you check.
Usually getting the funds owed to you is as simple as filling out a government form on a web page (and perhaps submitting something that proves you are who you say you are.)

Sometimes reality is boggling.
I met the real Trader Joe several times in the 1970s. His stores back then were mostly wine shops.
It is hard to map from the Trader Joe that I met and the stores I used back then to today's stores.
Were I to be the next President of the US I would ask my Atty General to consider bringing charges against every member of the US military who took part in the invasion of Venezuela who did not stand up and question the legitimacy of their orders.
Under Cheato and hogsbreath the US military has been lulled into the belief that it is OK to simply follow orders without considering whether those orders are legal/Constitutional or not.
Our soldiers and sailors need to be reminded of …
So, given all the expeditionary forces that the US is starting to deploy (legally or not) one might begin to wonder:
Will the US re-activate the military draft?
My prediction:
The return half of many round trip tickets held by US citizens to locations outside of the US will not be used.
Why will they not be used?
Because the return trip home will be in a body bag.
In other words, I am predicting that given the US actions (not merely today's invasion de jour), that US overseas travelers will become popular and easy targets for those who chose to use violence in response to US acts.
Our taxes are paying for the invasion of Venezuela.
Congress has abandoned the power to control expenditures.
So, how long are we going to keep paying for El Cheato to ravish our nation and other nations?
By-the-way, El Cheato has not obtained another name:

For example, I am here on MacOs (Tahoe) and the buttons in LibreWriter to control Bold, Italic, etc are effectively same-color-on-same-color-background, in other words, unreadable. The only time they are actually visible is when the "Dark" theme is used.
Almost every time I use LibreOffice I am reminded why people pay actual $$ for products like Word/Office365.
I've spent enough time in Florida to know that it is a horrible place to live except during a few winter months (and even then, Florida is always a social and cultural nightmare.). So I would guess that these people have several "homes".
However, I would suspect that there are people out there who might consider this kind of concentration of $billionaires as a convenient kind of "targeting coordinates".
