Montagmorgen, halb acht, und die Finanzabteilung hat schon geschickt, dass sie sich um das Reporting beim SNF kümmert. #EsIstNichtAllesSchlecht nur viel zu früh am Tag 😴

Took a day off work to get ready for holiday tomorrow. Predictably I have spent the whole day working. 🙄
Must get on actually packing, cleaning, and other essentials now...

Had "the talk"* with a student and now I feel slightly icky #academicChatter
*yep, "don't use 'AI' to have your term paper written for you"
Now suppose that the student in question is the child of an influential local politician…
All of this is of course completely hypothetical, but things like this do happen, and they can quickly get out of hand. So, better to be prepared! □

Having legal protection insurance is always a good idea to, but IMHO it’s absolutely essential for professors due to the particular context in which we work. But I find that it’s hardly ever discussed.
An obvious example is the question of the limits of academic freedom, but many potential issues are way more trivial. ⇢

I have to add I had six meetings with students this afternoon and only that one was icky. 💚 students #academicChatter

Daughter, slightly outraged: I hope *MY* teacher doesn’t prepare their exam questions the night before! 😬 #academicChatter
If a starting date is mentioned in an academic job posting, and if the job involves teaching, which customarily follows a specific calendar, I’d have thought that it’s rather obvious that there are reasons for this particular starting date.
Of course, you can always ask, but it’s typically not possible to move the semester to accommodate you.

It’s the last week of courses… Lets see how many students will attend the last sessions of my courses today and tomorrow…

There's certain jobs that I've always done when publishing with more senior colleagues (like formatting the references or tables, checking for consistency) and I thought "well obviously". But now that I'm mostly publishing with more junior colleagues I'm *still* doing those jobs, so I've come to think it's probably just a combination of a certain level of skills obsession 🙃 #academicChatter
(ignoring the gender issue for now which may contribute to making "housekeeping" my job?!)
Yes, why not add two days of university cloud storage outage (due to transfer from owncloud to nextcloud) and a holiday (plus bridge day) between me and my "end of May" deadlines?! #academicChatter 😭
Look, I’d really like to help with your surveys, but I’m already getting stuck at the first question!

Me, at the start of the semester: In order to pass this course, you need to complete the majority of the weekly exercises.
Student at the end of the semester: I had no idea that 4 exercises would not be enough!!
The semester has 14 weeks of courses.

Dear students and early career researchers cold-writing for a lab visit or job: please please please write your own email! If you can’t write a clear email stating your qualifications and intentions, you can’t do research! #academicChatter #llms
TFW you've spent ages trying to solve a tricky problem and it. just. does. not. work. You take a break, come back, try something new, nope still nothi... Wait! It's there, there it is! That's the data...
🥳🎊
That is why we love doing #science and in an increasingly packed day, the opportunity to work away uninterrupted* on a focused problem is increasingly rare. *That's* why I love fieldwork...
Details in a #FieldDiary soon.
*Uninterrupted time helped today by failure of all internet phone communication in Qaanaaq..

Movie idea: Under the mistaken belief that all costs were covered by a Read & Publish agreement, a researcher publishes an open access article in a journal. However, he then discovers that color figures aren’t covered, and now he owes the Cartel over 1600 Swiss francs. The chase is on as the Cartel is determined to get their hands on the money, no matter what.

Um 11:10 schon die Stulle essen = definitiv eine schlechte Idee, wenn ich noch bis 18:00 Seminar habe.
Aber mir ist langweilig und Frühstück war vor 7 #academicChatter
Good morning all! A rare day without any real meetings, and only one calendar entry (and that's a fun one, a networking thing to talk about how social media research can go forward in Germany). I'm not sure I can be trusted with that much freedom from time constraints #academicChatter
