I know as a developer just how hard it is to actually make it work, but perhaps the lesson of the Liquid Glass public reaction fiasco is for Apple to just give users •much• more control over the UI theme.
Between the retina transition, iOS 7, accessibility improvements like variable text size, dark mode support, and the long migration away from hard-coded layouts, we developers have grown used to making more adaptable UIs. Lots of the building blocks for OS-level theming are there, both in SwiftUI and in UIKit.
If Apple said “Themes are coming!” at WWDC 26, developers would adapt.
Assuming we still have a functioning society at that point.

I've found a serious issue with the iPhone's RTT call transcription.
By default, it *saves the transcript* of the call in the call log. This constitutes a recording of the call, and this transcript is saved on the iPhone without the knowledge or consent of the other parties on the call. This is ILLE…

Here's an accessibility tip for Fedilab, an Android app for Mastodon, Pixelfed, Friendica, and GoToSocial.
There are two settings that hide the top bar and compose button when a timeline is scrolled down. This helps to make the UI less cluttered for sighted users. But it makes these controls unavailable to screen readers. (Continued in reply.)

Hey, folks who understand alt text and limited vision accessibility:
I have need to write alt text for the diagram below. The alt text needs to be comprehensible to somebody who is encountering this kind of diagram for the ••very first time••. I could describe the images using the relevant jargon, but that would only serve people who already know the thing this activity is teaching them!
Any suggestions for how I could write good alt text for something like this? Is it possible? (The horizontal black bars are minus signs, i.e. subtraction. This is clear from context in the text, but probably not clear in the image.)
PLEASE NOTE: I am looking for people with ••relevant accessibility expertise••, not just random best shots from people who (like me) don’t really know much about this kind of problem.

3. Sa11y is a really great tool: sa11y.netlify.app It’s a live, in-page accessibility audit whose workflow is far, far more useful for actually improving the page than the server-based “enter your URL” online services. Killer features:
- It live-highlights potential issues on the page.
- It lets you dismiss warnings and •remembers that you dismissed them•, so it can offer subjective concerns that require manual review (e.g. “this image is marked as decorative; is that correct?”).
- Per the previous post, it actually respects the contrast setting, because it reports on what’s on the screen.

When a user identifies a potential accessibility challenge in your CSS endeavor, the response should not be, “have you considered a user stylesheet?”
Don’t be do dismissive.

I was hit with paywall the first time I look at the Forbes Accessibility 100. Now that I can (archive link: archive.is/G0ZCD), I was trying to find a breakdown of disabled folks (to start).
It seems Angela Young has already pegged it as low:
