The first large project that I took on basically alone in a large environment was polishing the custom-crafted system for feeding printers into something less support-ticket-generating at Daimler-Chrysler. That provides a rough date... The original author (who had become management) praised my work.
It got me a promotion of sorts. I graduated to no longer being required to work on printer issues or with anyone who might have printer issues.

Yes there are jobs with companies with people whose entire jobs are the printers because if the printers stop working it starts escalating really fast and starts costing a lot of money even faster I used to lug around LaserJets in a mail cart.

Mail authentication (shown) gives a URL to a page, Make sure you trust Gnome (4 perms already granted, Google console agrees) but in Firefox that URL asks to confirm and then reverts to google.com. In the minibrowser, it gets to "Requesting access token, please wait"
And wait you do.
How is this even POSSIBLE? What could cause it to (a) drop an OAuth2 overnight that had been in use for a day and (b) subsequently give a URL that does not result in an access token. I removed permissions on the Google side, but same results. Reinstalled Evolution, no change

Highly recommend not to identify yourself with any technology.
Doesn’t matter if it’s AI, bicycles, cars, video games, old computers, photography or Hi-Fi equipment.
If someone says something bad about it (doesn’t matter if true or not) and you feel personally attacked—take a step back and think long and hard about your feelings.
Can you be “into” something? Yes, of course. But don’t lose yourself.

Anyone who's been here for a while can name hundreds of internet stuff that is completely gone.
(yes, I know about the Internet Archive. I'm also aware of the many blind spots and broken links the Archive has. And of the fact that it isn't really searchable)
