Now that the poll is done, thinking if something like this make sense?

Form-style web interface titled "Phanpy Builder" with fields for client name, website, privacy policy URL, translation instances, default language, and referrer policy, plus buttons for Reset, Load .env, Download .env, and Build & Download, and an API usage section with example curl commands.

Imagine thinking now is the time to remove a protection on freedom of speech on the internet.

I samband…

Dave Farber - Grandfather of the Internet - is reported to have died.
I was never his student, but I learned my way of thinking about networks, as distributed systems rather than collections of connected machines, from his early DCS work (via my friend and Farber student, Frank Heinrich.)
I had the good luck to interact with Farber many times. I have several hours of unpublished video in which we discussed the history of the internet (and other matters) - I remember that day: We…

Oh. @… is thinking about moving over to Linux. I always felt him to be more tech-focused than others but I find it interesting how it comes up more and more even in gaming spaces.

thinking of writing a cli tool with an interactive prompt and/or tui, and I'm questioning the need for non-tui interactive mode, it feels like an artifact of the teletype era.
weak justification: tui removes information from screen, which you might need. this is not a big deal in window systems, but console ttys are still useful.
maybe instead of a full tui it can just tui the 5-6 lines it adds. this is not supposed to be doable in terminfo/curses, but everyone is ansi-termin…

English Alt Text:
A close-up black-and-white photo of a metal tree grate embedded in a sidewalk. The grate has curved slits and is filled with fallen leaves. Chinese characters “城市” (chéng shì), meaning “city,” are cut into the metal. The design is both functional and artistic, allowing water to reach tree roots while contributing to the urban aesthetic. The mix of natural debris and industrial design reflects city life.

English Alt Text:
A black-and-white photo captures a person riding a scooter on a paved urban road. The motion blur suggests speed and movement. The pavement is covered with handwritten phone numbers and text in white chalk, likely informal advertisements. Numbers such as “15267563110” and “19838199289” are visible. Shadows from nearby trees stretch across the road, adding texture and contrast. The scene evokes a gritty, everyday city moment with a mix of motion and static detail…

English Alt Text:
A monochrome photograph shows a brick wall with a warning sign in Chinese. The sign features a triangle with an exclamation mark and reads: “Pay attention to safety. Danger here. Do not approach. Consequences are at your own risk.” A tree with twisted branches stands in the foreground, its silhouette casting shadows on the wall. The image conveys caution and urban tension through stark contrasts and layered textures.

A black-and-white image of a textured wall with two distinct sections. On the left is a modern doorway leading into a room with a window. On the right is a decorative double door featuring geometric patterns like spirals, diamonds, and zigzags. The wall shows signs of wear with cracks and peeling paint. Tree shadows fall across the surface, adding depth. The juxtaposition of plain and ornate elements creates visual intrigue.

It's Gänseliesel day in Göttingen! Freshly minted PhD graduate Johannes Hölken attended the official ceremony at the Aula, has been picked up by us and ferried to the Gänseliesel fountain in the city center, and is about to bring the goose girl on the top of the fountain some flowers. Meanwhile, other carts around us are also interesting to look at!

Any social internet worth thinking about needs to be built on the idea of care.
- care for the wellbeing of the people on the network (moderation)
- care for those doing extra work (like moderation)
- care for each other (add alt-texts to images, thinking about inclusivity etc)
- care to make running infrastructure sustainable (in all respects)
The social Internet needs to be a web of human care.
