Bah, humbug. SF shouldn't have laid a grid over the hills; it makes walking and biking the city harder by adding needless elevation change.
But I agree with @… that stair streets lined with gardens are wonderful, as are the view spots in hilltop parks.
Now that we're stuck with this grid, we should make the hills less of a reason for car depen…

Sorry for posting so many YouTube videos but this is great and geeky: a video essay about "Akira elevators", those platforms that travel horizontally and vertically at the same time. I remember the Half-Life example and the original from Akira. They are an awesome design but a bit like mechas they are futuristic tools that feel incredibly dangerous to build as a means to transport humans.
I know that one of these days I am going to cave in and agree to pay the Grauniad £3 a month to read their site, but the amount of money I have to pay for media is not large and it mainly goes to small indy podcasts by individuals or small groups. I do have a sub to @…, which is corporate media, but that's the only exception.

I got this post by @… in my email today, it was forwarded while it still was attributed to Liz Cheney with this preface which I agree with:
"When she was in Congress, I disagreed with almost everything she said and every vote she made. But on the transcendent issue of our time — protecting our democracy from Trump and the forces of authoritarianism and fascism — Liz Cheney has been correct, clear, and courageous."
Turns out the message is not by Liz Cheney but is well worth reading as a kick in the ass to the Democratic Party.
