The Art of Reflection (PC) What if you could pass through the mirror to solve the puzzles?
So this game is more or less Portal but remove the portal gun and add mirrors. No "story" or narration to explain why you're in this maze floating in space, or why you're tasked with solving puzzles in it in order to get to cylinders that have musical instrument symbols on them. Once you collect them, you can return to the hub of the current section you're working on and p…

Frida Khalo was such a legend. I can't say anything that hasn't already been said, because she is so iconic. But for me, her self determination and control of her own image in the face of her illness and disability is the lesson we could all take from her. #Tate #art

Frida Kahlo - Self-Portrait with Thorn Necklace and Hummingbird, 1940

In this self-portrait, Kahlo portrays herself wearing her hair in an elaborate braid, adorned with butterfly brooches. On either side are a monkey and a cat. She wears a necklace made of thorns, which pierce her throat. From her necklace hangs a dead hummingbird. Above her head some gossamer blooms look like dragonflies.
Frida Kahlo - Girl with Death Mask, 1938, Oil paint on tin plate

In this miniature painting, a young girl wears a skull mask while holding a yellow marigold flower. Both objects are associated with the Day of the Dead, a day in Mexican culture where the dead are celebrated instead of mourned. The tiger mask that lies near the girl's feet is used for traditional celebrations in the state of Guerrero, Mexico. The open landscape, gentle colour palette and the presence of a child contrasts with th…
A rare self portrait of Frida with her hair loose. An inscription below tells us that this is her, aged 37, painted in the mirror.
Self-Portrait (in a Velvet Dress), 1926, Oil paint on canvas

This was Kahlo's first self-portrait, painted soon after she was hit by a bus, sustaining serious injuries. She wears a loose bathrobe, with an embroidered collar and plunging neckline. The intimate portrait was intended as a gift for her then boyfriend, and she presents herself as a modern woman who is who is free from social constraints.

Finally all done, bar one little patch that needs a quick dab with the paint pad on the long handle. I can't undo it atm to extend it, just waiting for the strong arm of @… to undo it for me 😄 One before, two afters. Payment is a Chinese takeaway tonight 🍜 #DIY

Stairwell with horizontal white slats, oatmeal carpet and grey-lilac paint covered in lots of blobs of polyfilla. Two cats just visible. This is Before.
The same stairwell sans chats and now painted mangolia. Yes I do know that's not how you spell it but let me have my fun. The awkward patch is right at the top of that big wall.
The landing, looking the other way, painted mangolia. Pretty plain and unexciting but now much brighter and not scruffy any more. A large art deco style mirror hangs on the wall.

Thinking about some things that @… said in another thread, and as someone who advocates against AI hype and against the use of most generative AI in most circumstances, I feel it's important to say: many of the ethical issues with using generative AI mirror almost directly the ethical issues with living/working on land stolen by colonists, except that they're less harmful.
Arguments like "well we don't really know whose work it's ripping off this time" and "artists that post their art online know it's going to be looked at; this is the same thing" and "well it's inevitable and everyone's doing it so it's unreasonable to make a big deal about it" directly echo arguments like "well now we don't know whose land it was any more exactly" (yes, we do; you can literally go look up the website of their descendants), or "the natives weren't really using the land anyways", or "it's all in the past now, and it's unavoidable." That unavoidable one is actually somewhat true of using stolen land, at least compared to LLM usage.
If you can see through those lies in the case of AI hype but choose not to do so in the case of colonialism, that says something about your priorities and allegiances.
This is not at all a call for people to talk less about AI; rather it's a call for those who take opposing AI hype seriously to look around and make some noise about other injustices too (I realize many of you already do this).
