Looks like Microsoft threw a good operator under the bus, so they could hire give the title of ceo of AI to a guy with some baggage and none of the organizational chops.
Sometimes what is marketed as 4d chess is just coin flipping.
First time I did this get it. After a couple of days though, I’m enjoying it quite a bit

Eight-year-old becomes youngest chess player to beat grandmaster
An eight-year-old chess prodigy from Singapore has become the youngest chess player to beat a grandmaster.
After a three-hour game of chess at Switzerland’s Burgdorfer Stadthaus-Open, Ashwath Kaushik – who is eight and six months – beat the 37-year-old Polish grandmaster Jacek Stopa on Sunday, according to the Singapore Star.
Kaushik broke the age record set only days before, when Leonid Ivanovic from Serbia (ei…

Whereas early #AGI proponents believed that machines would soon take on all human activities, researchers have learned the hard way that creating AI systems that can beat you at chess or answer your search queries is a lot easier than building a robot to fold your laundry or fix your plumbing.
The definition of AGI was adjusted accordingly to include only so-called “cognitive tasks.”

the polish entry for #eurovision just dropped and it's okay i guess it has some unexpected moments. they're going to have a tough time in the semi-final anyways. the music video has some appeal for the chess community. i wasn't paying attention if the sequences played are actually real or just for drama.

Ok so I have been thinking for literal tens of hours, if you had an array of 192x192 (i.e. (64x3)^2 (i.e. a chessboard with 9 coils per square)) PCB electromagnets,
how would you enable and disable the magnets in a pattern such that ~32 "microrobots" (chess pieces) could exist on the board without moving. i.e. cancel out some fields with others
Here's a #TTS): they struggle with long strings of numbers and end up hallucinating interesting pronunciations.

That means AlphaGo has to be creative, not just calculative.

The greater Cleveland sports reporting universe burst Thursday with news about Browns owners Dee and Jimmy Haslam potentially buying a suburban tract of land, potentially as a home for a new stadium.
👉We did not carry a story on it, on cleveland.com or in The Plain Dealer.
The decision was a tough one, but it came down to a dearth of facts.
A blog with a dubious history first reported the news, based on unnamed sources.
The Browns soon issued a statement of 142 words …

You know how you almost never see an advanced chess game really played out? I mean, they play it out to the point where the inevitable loser sees their doom and resigns. The best (or, I guess, 2nd-best?) players see their doom well before beginners will. Some people even see the practice of grinding out an inevitable end-game as amateurish and rude.
Quite different in life. Once one notes that the remainder is doomed to be an unpleasant slide into the grave, people get all suicide-wat…
