When the government offers to provide rebates or tax credits to low income Canadians, as recently announced by our Federal Government, most welcome the extra cash. But it doesn't address the key issue in affordable food, housing, or utilities. All of that extra government cash, provided by taxpayers BTW, gets sucked up by corporations that continue to rake in record profits. If you want to truly attack the #Affordability problem then implement laws that penalize excess profit taking by corporations. Take key necessities (food, transit, shelter, utilities, etc.) and create public options that are run as cooperatives and have controlled profit margins.

Periodic reminder: When people actually _study_ social media, they come to realize that even the most so called "echo chamber" actually tends to be MORE diverse than the communities they'd otherwise inhabit.
The tribal, self-reinforcing social boundaries that reject new information are actually an artifact of _contextless exposure to people with different points of view_. And accelerated by hostility.
In short: echo chambers don't exist. Insularity is a response to disrupted community norm formation by slamming too many people together without context for each other. It's not the social media algorithms directly doing it. It's the social response to those algorithms.

I think this is an anti-capitalist framing that fails to really engage with intersectional feminism. (Now, please call me out if I'm wrong on this, because I'm still figuring a lot of shit out but...) Racism, misogyny, transphobia, and other forms of bigotry are not distractions that allow capitalist exploitation. They are interlocking systems, of which capitalist exploitation is a part.
The standard framing fails to engage with *what power is.* Impoverishing communities is not the goal. The goal is power. The goal is to create more coercive relationships, which interlock with all the other forms of coercion.
When you understand what the #Epstein class was doing, when you understand the way he specifically leveraged transphobia, misogyny, and economic power *together* as part of his sex trafficking, you realize there's actually something else going on here.
The anti-capitalist framing misses one of the the most important opportunities we have in this moment: the ability to permanently tie this structure to the natural repulsion we all feel towards coercion (especially as it manifests as sexual violence against children).
