These kinds of headlines are so frustrating. It was only controversial *to* the merchants and drivers who did not want to spend an extra sixty seconds in their car. I'm waiting for a local paper to write the headline 'Life-saving road design blocked by grumpy neighbors"

headline on the SFGate news website that says "Controversial West Portal redesign plan delayed after merchant backlash". recently, an entire family of four people was killed by a driver while they were waiting at a bus stop. The intersection and area has been dangerous a long time and the supervisor pushed to get a redesign right away. Local merchants and drivers threw a fit even though it would not stop people from driving just slow them down.
