Ran into an issue when updating Hytale for my Warlock installer; their downloader is throwing a 403 forbidden when attempting to retrieve the downloader helper application for installing the game, (not even the game install, the helper). Weird.

Yesterday I took a closer look at Matrix as a Discord replacement.
I like it. It's more bare bone and less complex to use.
The whiteboard (Neoboard) is better than the Discord one (although you still cannot "lock" an element in place)
My only issue is Webhooks. I use them a lot and for Matrix, it's a bit more complicated.

Majority of the people I see recommending moving to Matrix are running on the main home server.

One of the things I use Discord for is the Heroic launcher server, mostly for the channel where "Gaming on Linux" news is posted.

I thought about hosting one in my NAS, but even if cgnat wasn't a thing actively moderating porn-focused places seems like a nightmare so I'd want something hosted by someone with a bit more experience on that such as moderating fedi servers or something. I guess some people who host fedi instances probably also host chat rooms right?
