Israel on Tuesday said it had
💥suspended more than two dozen humanitarian organizations,
including "Doctors Without Borders" and CARE,
from operating in the Gaza Strip
for failing to comply with new registration rules.
Israel says the rules are aimed at preventing Hamas and other militant groups from infiltrating the aid organizations.
But the organizations say the rules are arbitrary and warned that the new ban would harm a civilian population d…

Blocking the work of MSF is absolutely depraved. Israel continues to fumble its way out of the community of civilized nations.

Federal judge Mary McElroy has blocked the Trump administration’s
attempt to reallocate federal Homeland Security funding away from states that refuse to cooperate with certain federal immigration enforcement.

Sometimes hacking a computer means a whole different thing...
In this use, I'm actually hacking (with a hacksaw) the case apart to add an I/O shield (custom made) so I can fit an older motherboard that was not designed for this case.
And thank you to Gateway for making me do this by not using a removable shield and instead stamping every hole they needed and covering them with a sticker if they weren't on this model. 🤦‍♂️

four 3d printer I/O shields each with slightly better layout and options. the top is the earliest and has holes that are too small (the DB9 and DB25 are comically small). the next has the right sized DB9 and DB25 cutouts, but there is still a problem with the clearance on the PS/2 ports. the third one would have worked, but I wanted to shift the PS/2 ports half a millimeter and add labels for the three DB ports.
the back of a gateway 2000 G3 case with a large rectangle jacked out where the IO shield should go.
the back of a Gateway 2000 G3 case with the completed I/O shield and motherboard installed. everything lines up and fits.
my assorted implements of destruction used to create the hole for the I/O shield. sitting on top of an old table cloth covered in small pieces of metal are: a round file, a triangle file, a pair of snips, a hacksaw, and a pair of needle nose pliers.

Alone at the (seeming) end of the world. The Hochjoch Hospiz at the end of the Rofental, near the former confluence of three (formerly) major glaciers in the central Alps: Hintereisferner, Kesselwandferner and Hochjochferner. Vernagtferner is also nearby, which at times interrupted the outflow of these other glaciers, caused an ice lake to form, which when it burst led to widespread destruction in the valleys below (several times since the early 1600s). These days all of these glaciers are s…

View of a mountain hut (Hochjoch Hospiz, already shuttered for the winter) in an empty, bare and vast high alpine landscape. The hut is seen from behind and from a distance, standing on a slope covered in dried brown grass, its color emphasized by the golden late afternoon light. Large mountains with snow-dusted peaks (incl. Kreuzspitze, Kreuzkogel, Sennkogel, Saykogel, all ~3300-3400m) are directly opposite with some deep canyons running down (carved out by the outflow of the melting glaciers)…

Rimer Cardillo, Uruguayan-American artist exhibition "Deep Ecology" at the Plains Art Museum #Fargo #NorthDakota

Taubman Museum of Art Cupí, 1997-98 and 2024

Installation of terracotta casts, wood, aluminum wire and chicken wire

"In the 1990s, Cardillo explored large-scale sculptural forms he calls cupí-cone-shaped earthen mounds patterned upon ancient Meso-American burial sites, often covered with fossil-like objects that resembled ossified remains recording a plenitude of past life now extinct. These sculptural forms circulate around themes of loss and continuity, prehistory and its accessibility.
