My employer sent out guidance on working on site, tomorrow. I'm glad that I get to just work from home. #Milwaukee

I was lucky enough to be given an M&S voucher by my employer on Friday. I bought a lovely black top that arrived today and works exactly as I'd hoped with my new trousers. I've gone mad and bought a cream one of a similar shape but slightly different design. What's the betting it fits *completely* differently and I hate it?

Content warning: re: bitcoin conference report

Prem ghinde thinks that Alan is killing bitcoin.
Alan is paid in government money, and saves in bitcoin. He's an imaginary straw man.
Alan doesn't plan to spend his bitcoin though. Just stack it until he sells it. And this doesn't build the bitcoin network.
Without transitions, when the block rewards run out, there will be no money for miners. Miners will need fees, which means transactions.
Since he's paying in bank money, he's funding bankers instead of miners. He's encouraging retail to accept bank money instead of miners and lightning liquidity providers.
Unlike Alan, Prem lives on the bitcoin standard. All in. Spending sats because he has no bank money to spend. It can be done, he insists. Today. Mostly by using gift vouchers bought with bitcoin.
He's sad that people here are buying drinks from the hotel with bank cards instead of lightning.
Stop watching the price, he says, it's only a measure of government money's collapse. Change your yardstick. Account in bitcoin. Dollars aren't even money, they are currency. If you must measure, do it against gold.
Since moving to el Salvador he had learned Spanish, until he even dreams in Spanish. Try to dream in bitcoin.
Every transaction is a vote, so stop voting for bank money.
I think the main trouble with this is that tax event in every purchase, and the fact my employer won't set a wage in bitcoin even if they would convert to bitcoin to pay me.

Moving services to the EU
Like a lot of Europeans, I realise that the US isn't a reliable partner anymore.
I am just talking about myself here, and not my employer, or my family.
I do use a lot of services that are based in the US, and some I will probably not migrate in the near future.
But when I receive a bill, it is a good moment to consider if it is a candidate for migration.

Here is a sliver of hope for cashflow for OpenAI: They will charge your employer a hefty fee for your company use of ChatGPT. But because your employer is recording everything you do with ChatGPT, you will want to have your private, for-pay ChatGPT, too, to get your job done.
Your employer will look the other way, as your grey use of ChatGPT provides plausible deniability for any #compliance

Strikes run on pizza.
Turns out they also can begin to end on them.
Several pies, in fact, arrived on North Shore Drive on the brisk Tuesday that was Oct. 18, 2022,
when the strikers first walked out of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette newsroom
because the PG had violated federal labor law.
The workers said they would not go back to their jobs until their employer followed the rules.
They had no idea it would take three years

The actual rules

Let me spell them out, since they’re now pretty clear:

If a prominent conservative is killed, you must mourn publicly and appropriately. Quoting their own words is not allowed. Pointing out the consequences of their rhetoric is not allowed. Criticizing how their allies respond is not allowed. Failing to show sufficient grief is grounds for termination, investigation, deportation, or FCC action against your employer.

If a prominent liberal is killed, the president can mock th…

The most obvious tell of this sort of incident is the phone call.
The only IT or #infosec folks who will proactively call you about an attempt at hijacking an account are those of your employer or *maybe* your access provider.
Google, Microsoft,Apple, etc. are not calling everyone with suspicious activity on their accounts. There are not enough support agents on the planet to do that…

Acquired a new phone for work.
Just need to get a new SIM card for it and tell my employer to update phone numbers in their system.
This way, I can have a better separation between work and private (Phone off -> I'm completely unavailable no real work-related apps on my private phone).
Sadly, "right to be unavailable" it's not (yet) in law in The Netherlands.
Luckily, my employment terms does have other clauses that effectively allow me to do this…

For folks forking IdentityServer. It's not "just code". There are decades of understanding specs, working with security teams around the world, ongoing support, and doing all those things continually.
When it comes to security, staying behind, or even worse, standing still, is the worst option.
From a maintainers perspective, think of doing all of the above for FREE to save your employer money for the "atta boys". In the meantime wasting the most precious …
