'The interval between great-power wars in Europe from 1648 to 1945 averaged around forty years. That’s how long it takes for the generational memory of the last war to fade from the bodies of the people who vote in the next one. The post-1945 peace in Europe is the longest stretch in recorded history, which means we have a decade or two before the generation that could say "I remember" no longer exists in political life.
What happens then, is what always happens.'

Here's an idea for the next great thing since 3D TVs: transparent TV programmes.
Just imagine: instead of yet another boring studio background you'll see all the presenters on top of whatever is behind your TV. Sure, usually that's a wall but some of us have freestanding TVs. Whenever people in a music video are lip-syncing their song while moving in slowmotion this is filmed by having a sped-up song on set for people to sing along to. Slowing down the video by the right amount makes everything look epic. So jump into this audiovisual masterpiece at 0:50 or 3:20, switch to 1.5x speed and imagine being on that set while a kid just walks around rapping to that sped-up song 😁

As an editor, I love it when an author takes the feedback we provide and engages deeply with it. This doesn't necessarily mean doing everything we ask - there are sometimes very good reasons for pushing back. I appreciate the humility involved in the exercise but watching a piece turn from not bad into something smarter, more incisive, better informed, and ultimately good if not great is the best part.
This is encouraging but I don't trust such small samples.

The Zeroing of Knowledge: When Everything Is Known, What Remains Worth Learning?
Knowledge used to be expensive. It cost years of apprenticeship, tuition in the tens of thousands, decades of practice, and, more than anything, the brutal currency of time. A physician spent twelve years beyond high school before being trusted to cut into a human body. A lawyer spent seven years and a bar exam before being permitted to argue before a judge.

Vibe coding provides a tantalizing answer in that situation: maybe it’s too varied to •abstract•, but not too varied to •plagiarize• and call it good.
This is something subtly different from abstraction. It’s not “do this in the standard way.” Instead, it’s “just rip off whatever other people are doing right now.”
A lot of people really want that — and tbh, a lot of them are not wrong to want it. I personally love the craft of programming, but let’s face it, a lot of software out there just needs to look like everything else and be done with it.
My current task for our #VFXPipeline is to accomodate Windows users in a Linux pipeline. Easiest option: give every Photoshop artist a Linux workstation for Nuke. Seems to be a common thing. One thing that grinds my gears about both SA and DISCO are that they don't fully engage with their premises, despite leaning on old, reasonably well-trodden foundations for them. "here, have some therapy" but no engagement with _why_ or what's going on. Show the audience why! Show how it works! But no we just skip to "adding therapy makes everything better" and that's not just bad storytelling, that's not how therapy works.
Repeat for all the other soft elements of the show. Interpersonal dynamics are all summed up, in ways that defeat the very premises they're trying to show.
I fully blame the run time for a lot of this. But geez.
