For #TextureTuesday some more WIP snapshots of STRATA, a generative system I've been on/off working on since 2014 (in Clojure/TypeScript/Zig, originally for the cover design of HOLO magazine), loosely based on 1950s research/experiments by Barricelli, somewhat related to cellular automata and extended to use a different and much larger set of "reproduction/collision rules" f…

The FT finally pick up on @… 's old point about # Ukraine # Russia now being far ahead of Europe in drone warfare technology.
She misses though that Denmark will host a joint manufacturing venture.

Dora, the kitten, likes to nap in bowls. You might even say it's adorable...

Photo of a small kitten that decided to curl up and sleep in someone's used bowl on the kitchen table. Why pay for a bed and breakfast, when you can just sleep on your food?

First/last light, same day. Golden larches.
(From a hike on the last day of our recent roadtrip. The view in the second image is looking back at Hanauer Hütte, in front of Schneekarlespitze and (clipped) Dremelspitze)

(Mostly) yellow larch trees standing in dense patches of lowgrowth mountain pines, on steep mountain slopes in the morning fog. A vague ridge line in the background. Uniform gray sky.
Multi-layered mountain landscape, in terms of distance, elevation and light. A mountain hut (Hanauer Hütte) is standing on the precipice of a large rock wall, the cables of its supply cable car leading up to it from the valley. Behind it, the ridge line of Schneekarlespitze and the north face of Dremelspitze in the haze. Most of the lower valley parts are already in deep shade from the surrounding peaks. Only a band of yellow/orange larches standing in the penumbra are still catching the beauti…

TIL about Widmanstätten-structures, a pattern of cross-hatching lines on the surface of iron-rich meteorites. The pattern was named after Alois Joseph Franz Xaver Beck Edler von Widmanstätten.

MonochromeEvolutionaryBioDigitalCellularAutomataSimulation
Unlike the recently shared[1] multi-cellular struggles, these here are some selected research stills (handpicked from tens of thousands) of only single CA configurations (aka mono-cultures) which I found interesting/promising and which were then used as raw ingredients/candidates for my infinitely evolving C-SCAPE project[2]...
Each of these cellular automata is 1.5D, meaning each pixel row is one generation, but I allowe…
