With this being the first Raspberry Pi 5 of the cluster, and since those are notorious for running hotter than the Pi 4. Which I did extensive testing on last year: blog.wyrihaximus.net/2024/12/b

Finished cleaning up the cabling and getting the Beelink properly installed in the minirack. Overall, I miss the Pis because they looked pretty cool, but I'm not gonna complain: this looks pretty good as well.
The doggo wasn't quite as impressed.

Heads up for the #homelab / #selfhosting community: #minio has gone source-only and will no longer build new docker images, and the latest version of the image contains an 8.1/10 privilege escalati…

#selfhosting #homelab #linux #hardware

A meme with IQ bell curve, where on both ends are raspberry pi's and in the middle is high end server hardware. Titled "selfhosting/homelab hardware"

I'm in Australia right now. I can boot my home PC via Wake On LAN to access my files if I have to. I placed a webcam in front of it so that I can verify that it actually does so.
It's weird seeing my computer 16.500 km away from me. It feels like my own little Mars mission. Especially with how SSH feels at 300-400 ms latency.
And yes, that's a drinking glass I forgot on my desk.
#HomeLab

Webcam capture of a completely dark room. The brightest thing is a large monitor displaying a linux console. In front of it, a drinking glass can be made out. Below the monitor, a keyboard is lit up in green.

I went cold-turkey with caffeine 10 days ago.
After a few days of severe headaches and generally not feeling great - I started actually to sleep better, and thanks to that - I have more energy during the days, generally in a better mood, and I am finally feeling inspired to do fun stuff again.
Just finished my next meshtastic solar node, and currently fixing up my homelab that has been neglected for 7 month or so.

If you can't accomplish most of what you want to do in a homelab with VMs on a laptop or docker containers on a 16GB Raspberry Pi, and RAM prices are what's keeping you down, consider buying some old-ass server or Dell workstation instead. You'll pay more in power, and performance won't be cutting-edge, but REG ECC DDR3 is under $1/GB on AliExpress, and you can still slap a 5090 into into the box if you insist (with some degree of PCIe throttling that shouldn't bother you…

€99.29 incl 23% VAT for 4x32GB DDR3-1600 REG ECC from https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006954469980.html

Decided to give Postgresus a go for managing my DB backups and monitoring. Connected Vaultwarden and Immich's DBs to it, have them backing up to Backblaze B2 for offsite backups, and connected email and Discord notifications just in case the DBs eat themselves somehow. The backups work pretty well, gonna see how things go with it.
