Ten years ago when I was building electric vehicles with my friends I always hated getting my hands all greasy and dirty.
Five years ago talking to friends of mine who were into gardening and plants I mentioned how I always hated getting soil and dirt all over my hands.
Nowadays when I’m in the kitchen making dough, mixing batter, whipping up icing, I don’t mind getting my hands dirty at all.
It’s just a different kind of “dirt” that I like.

I've been bothered by Gluteus Medius. I've tried "activation exercises"—if you have a name for them, I did them. All I got in reply was "You wish!" 🤬
There is an awkward silence in the hip now. The hip is making new noises now. Which makes the internal dialogue weird:
"Hey, brain!"
"What do you want hip?"
"Nothing."
"Nothing?"
*silence*
"Hey, brain?"

'Eingefrorene Bewegung' #FotoVorschlag 'Frozen Movement'
Ah I almost didn't want to post a photo for this topic until this photo came to my mind. And it's a frozen motion even literally... right?
More about this day:

A dynamic and atmospheric winter scene unfolds in this image, capturing the raw beauty of a snowstorm. The sky is filled with swirling snowflakes, creating a dense curtain of white that partially obscures the landscape. The snowfall adds a sense of movement and energy to the scene, as the flakes dance and swirl in the wind.

In the foreground, patches of snow-covered grass and rocks are visible, their textures softened by the falling snow. The contrast between the white snow and the darker tone…

My general framework for thinking about this stuff:
- Brains vary a lot, in a lot of different ways.
- We have names for a few variations, or common patterns of variation. That can be useful, but it’s hardly complete.
- There’s a wealth of as-yet-unnamed neurodivergences out there.
- It’s all but certain that •everyone’s• mind is atypical in one way or another.
- Comparison with, aspiration to, or forced conformance to the nonexistent “average” mind is unhelpful, frequently harmful.
- Embracing variation is the only reasonable (or humane) approach.

A partially disassembled robot vacuum is spread out on a wooden table. Various internal components are visible, including circuit boards with glowing blue lights, a red and black brush attachment, and other plastic parts. Several small glasses, tools like screwdrivers, and a paper towel are also on the table, indicating a repair or maintenance process in progress.
The image shows a map interface from the Valetudo app, displaying a floor plan with an outlined cleaning path taken by a robotic vacuum. The plan includes various paths and possible obstacles. The app has a blue header with navigation icons, and controls for segment cleaning are visible below the map.
The image shows a statistics screen from valetudo application. At the top, it displays "Total Time" with a reading of "383h 54m 04s." Below, there's a badge with the letters "bcc" in the center, surrounded by a blue and orange border. The text beneath the badge reads, "You've cleaned more than the whole CC Congress: bcc Berlin Congress Center." At the bottom, it shows "Total Area" with a measurement of "17687.88 m²."

This has allowed me to make clear something that's been at the back of my mind. Something that is at the heart of so much blind stupidity in big tech.
It's the assumption that we will change one thing and all else will be the same.
In this case, we will fire lots and lots of employees all over the world and we will make lots of profit. We're smart enough to make the AI, and we're dumb enough to think that there will only be one consequence. 1/n

They argue that genAI won’t produce sufficient revenue from consumers to pay back the current investment frenzy. I mean, they’re right, it won’t, but that’s not what the investors are buying. They’re buying the promise, not of more revenue, but of higher profits that happen when tens of millions of knowledge workers are replaced by (presumably-cheaper) genAI. ¶

Content warning: Machine learning, but positive. Potentially controversial

My controversial take on "AI" ray tracing helpers are that it's a really good idea.
First some background: keep in mind that machine learning tecnologies excell at tasks that have a high reward for success and a small cost for failure. In this case getting most of the rays right improve performance, at the cost of some few rays being shot in nothing.
Secondly, light rays are way too many in real life to be simulated in their entirety, so using some statistics to approximate the lighting model makes a lot of sense here. Plus at the lower quantum scale even phisicists use statistic to explain this stuff, so it's not that irrealistic either.
Finally the source data for this stuff is entirely other games, so ethically sourcing the training data set should not be a concern here.
Here, technology can be good or bad. It's not the tech, it's the use of the tech by the people (but that I mean oligarchic corporations) that makes them good or bad.

Run Zack Run!
Glad to see lots of people liking and sharing the Green Party England&Wales broadcast this week. It's striking.
Hope it's happening in the corporate spaces too, though presumably the capitalist leaders there suppress it with their algorithms.
Zack is in general doing such a great job of speaking my mind really it's unreal.
All the other leaders just seem dazed and confused, trying hard to maintain the status quo, ensure that capital power persists and they don't offend their corporate donors.
Or worse, just blaming the poor and the helpless and threatening that hurting people will solve the problems England and Wales face (it won't).
Here's hoping it has some impact and the Green Party make huge progress because the country seems likely to just get worse and worse under any of the other party's policies and positions.
