The #WorldCup may be over halfway done, but it's taken me that long to get fed up having the outcome of matches being spoiled on #BBC Sports.
So I made a little #Stylus stylesheet to hide everything, and wrote up the process. Not the most important work, but quite fun, and has already paid dividends in my enjoyment of the football ⚽

I love docs as code but have never enjoyed Jekyll as much as the alternatives. What I hadn't realised is that the dependencies for GitHub Pages ( the place where I normally run into this tech stack ) are now so old that they aren't installable on my modern operating system.

This sounds compatible with what I was suggesting at the EU Parliament and what we’re working towards with Small Tech and Small Web.
Thoughts?

Because I prefer to own my own data, I've just had to struggle through the phone setup routine of installing fdroid and then the passwordstore app, then getting my pgp key onto the phone and generating a GitHub token. All this stuff should be easier for normal people, even I had a moment where I looked at the phone and went "how do these pieces go together, again? ..."

Why would vim need GTK toolkit support? It’s meant to be a TERMINAL based editor!!!
I realise there might’ve been similar functionality with Qt and/or GTK3 but I don’t know man, this feels weird.

I’ve ordered a refurbed pixel 8a as a stopgap, and will just miss things when I’ve left it somewhere around the house I guess! Hopefully some better options will show up at some point.
Mind you I had the iPhone mini for years and useful notifications on that are not allowed, presumably because they ruin the aesthetic. That never stopped being annoying.

Does anyone know of an android phone I can buy in the UK that is less than 150mm on its longest side? I'm having to return my motorola razr (flip phone) under warranty and there is no point having any phone that does not fit in a (ladieswear) pocket. Suggestions gratefully received!

It seems the weird POSSE mechanism on my website now works for the three content types: articles, photos and book reviews. All will be posted as normal content to this account, and a cronjob periodically checks for interactions, and adds them to the content on my website. Had to rewrite a significant portion because of some edge cases.

I spend so much time with Claude Code but I am constantly worried about how someone with less experience is supposed to get good outcomes. I'm a VERY experienced developer/maintainer but WTF Claude just flipped the ahead/behind commit count on a list of branches and tried to get me to clean up everything that was up to date. I'd specifically asked for written file report and a count/summary before we started, and It "smelled" wrong when I saw them, but is so easy to miss these things!

Bearing in mind that I wasn't always great at publishing all talk materials (especially if I gave the same talk a few times with minor changes), I created a lot of content for clients/employers as well that isn't listed here - and I also wrote multiple books. This is a LOT of content!

Blog migration story update: About 1000 blog posts converted okay, I've got <100 still hanging around too broken to render. But then I realised that the migration lost all the embeds from the "more lornajane" section and there are hundreds and hundreds of articles, slide decks, videos, all now needing some sort of rescue. I used to give a lot of talks, but actually I also did it for a lot of years and so it's really a lot of content when you try to look at it all at once!

It's been a while since I had bother with my Wordpress but today I had a visit from the wp2shell exploit. I saw additional "garbage" output on both the website frontend and the admin login page. A rogue plugin had been added, and I also had a new admin user. I've removed those and upgraded to newest wordpress (wp cli allows upgrade within your current major version if needed). Be careful out there, folks.

I've been meaning to move my blog to a static site for years ... but on a 20 year old site with >1k blog posts, with a variety of plugins that don't all work and a sort of custom posts implementation that predates actual custom post types in wordpress, plus all the talk/article entries, I've been sort of putting it off!! Yesterday's wp2shell was a strong reminder to keep that migration on my todo list though.
