I only learned how to do this with years of therapy, but it has really helped make my body easier to live in and my life easier to lead. I always gave others concessions and excuses, but it took reframing past experiences from the view of an outsider to allow myself personal forgiveness.
Imposter syndrome? That was another matter. It instantly went away in 2016 when Donald Trump was elected. I realized how truly incompetent, manipulative, and openly malicious people can gain power and no longer felt anyone could say anything about my well-qualified, earnest, and ethical little jobs.

I'm strangely nerd-pleased to notice that I have a round number of repositories on my GitHub account right now: 256

BBC still publish actual podcasts (RSS feeds with audio) for their world service content. The trailers have always been annoying when I've downloaded quiet spoken word content and they've got very noisy stings (and outside the UK, bad ads) for other programmes an the start. Today I notice those noise injections are also being added in the middle of episodes.
Woke up thinking about the options for recording broadcast radio and making it into usable, non-startling audio (thank you sleeping brain)

Annoyed in a sort of resigned way to discover that my perfectly working Freeview box with hard disk will no longer have iPlayer support in a few months' time. There's nothing wrong with this hardware, but apparently I have to buy something new and presumably more evil now.

I proposed a new feature for the next release of OpenAPI (which will be 3.3, in case you aren't following our every move): externalLinks is like externalDocs but you can have more than one link to an external resource. The field can be used at the top level of an OpenAPI description, and on each operation, schema and tag.

I love docs as code but have never enjoyed Jekyll as much as the alternatives. What I hadn't realised is that the dependencies for GitHub Pages ( the place where I normally run into this tech stack ) are now so old that they aren't installable on my modern operating system.

I survived the two-talks experience after a long time off stage. Funny what things go wrong when you're out of practice but it is done! Slides for both talks are at #APIDays / #FOST then stop me and say hi :)

At one time in my career I was regularly at technical conferences. That's changed and I'm at my first in-person tech event of the year, at #APIDaysLondon
I'm also giving the first public talks for the year (tomorrow), let's hope I remember how that goes!!

Bearing in mind that I wasn't always great at publishing all talk materials (especially if I gave the same talk a few times with minor changes), I created a lot of content for clients/employers as well that isn't listed here - and I also wrote multiple books. This is a LOT of content!

Blog migration story update: About 1000 blog posts converted okay, I've got <100 still hanging around too broken to render. But then I realised that the migration lost all the embeds from the "more lornajane" section and there are hundreds and hundreds of articles, slide decks, videos, all now needing some sort of rescue. I used to give a lot of talks, but actually I also did it for a lot of years and so it's really a lot of content when you try to look at it all at once!

Is it just me, or are most of the #indieweb standards unbelievably convoluted? It seems you want simple ways to connect websites. This is so overcomplicated, and unbecoming of personal websites.

Every #emfcamp is a different experience. Health issues cramped my style this time, but I still connected with people and came away daring to hope for our shared futures. This event and community means so much to me, and I'm so grateful it exists.

They are in a tiny resealable bag with a small piece of paper that says "AAA batteries". So when the batteries are used and you wonder what the empty bag should have contained: you know!
These tactics developed over many years of mistakes.

I'm travelling so light on this trip that the only things left in the bag of cables (while I charge things overnight) are a hair tie, a mint, two USB adapters and the 2 spare AAA batteries.
.... I no longer have any devices that take batteries. The last were my clicker and my keyboard, and they are both rechargeable ones in their current incarnation. Guess I'm travelling even lighter on the next trip!

Successfully booked a grocery delivery slot for Christmas week. I'm not sure what else I'll achieve today but this was logistically crucial!

I've been meaning to move my blog to a static site for years ... but on a 20 year old site with >1k blog posts, with a variety of plugins that don't all work and a sort of custom posts implementation that predates actual custom post types in wordpress, plus all the talk/article entries, I've been sort of putting it off!! Yesterday's wp2shell was a strong reminder to keep that migration on my todo list though.

The actual remedials will have to wait for the weekend, this is a personal blog and there's nothing else on that box so it'll just have to stay like that for now. I have backups and will just nuke the server and rebuild when I have a spare day.

It's been a while since I had bother with my Wordpress but today I had a visit from the wp2shell exploit. I saw additional "garbage" output on both the website frontend and the admin login page. A rogue plugin had been added, and I also had a new admin user. I've removed those and upgraded to newest wordpress (wp cli allows upgrade within your current major version if needed). Be careful out there, folks.

Still cleaning up some blog post stragglers from the migration I did a few weeks ago. Given how many are pre-2009 posts, I think these were broken two migrations ago and I'm starting to wonder if I even should be fixing them now! Claude is pretty confident though so hopefully between that and me we're not making anything worse than it already was
