Good Morning #Canada
OTD in 1977, Tim Severin landed on Peckford Island, Newfoundland. Severin had set sail from Ireland on May 17th with a five-man crew in a boat built using only techniques and materials available in sixth-century Ireland. The arduous 7,300km journey was meant to prove that St. Brendon had discovered North America almost 1,000 years before Columbus. I'm sure we were polite and didn't smirk when we welcomed him to Canada.

You'll never become a NATIVE English speaker
No matter how hard you try, the years in the UK or Ireland, the effort in your accent, or the AI applications you might use to fake it
There is a language wall, made of accents, cultural references and seemingly illogical phrasal verbs and idioms, that we cannot jump
But IT DOESN'T MATTER.
90% of your interactions are probably with other non-native speakers. As long as you understand each other, you're good.

Good Morning #Canada
OTD in 1866, the Fenian Brotherhood crossed the Niagara River to invade Canada. This group was an Irish American organization that was dedicated to freeing Ireland from British rule, and they believed that if they captured Canada, they could use it as a bargaining tool. We could have become a nation of red-headed brawlers who were terrible hockey players.

This is a trend of my desire to not drink alcohol over the last few days. Purely coincidentally, this is also a graph of the state of charge of my solar battery array over the last few days.
I think I'm like one of those lizards that has to recharge in the sun to have any desire to live. No wonder I love the desert. No wonder I don't love Ireland.

The Trump administration is preparing to begin the transfer of potentially thousands of foreigners who are in the United States illegally

starting as early as this week,
said U.S. officials familiar with the matter.

Crossing from Pembroke #Wales to Rosslare #Ireland, I just saw dozens of #puffins flying close to the Ferry.
When we first stayed in #Pembrokeshire in 1998, we happened to stay near Martin's Haven one night and simply got a place on a boat to #Skomer Island when arriving at the harbour. I never again saw so many puffins so close.
When trying to reserve a trip for this summer already very early this year, all trips to Skomer were completely booked and even the wating list filled...

This dataset contains the daily dynamic contact networks collected during the Infectious SocioPatterns event that took place at the Science Gallery in Dublin, Ireland, during the artscience exhibition INFECTIOUS: STAY AWAY. Each file in the downloadable package contains a tab-separated list representing the active contacts during 20-second intervals of one day of data collection. I go on Facebook
An Irishman in Ireland has posted a picture of his Irish flag flying outside his house (in response to some sports thing, apparently?)
The comments are exclusively full of Irish people spouting vitriol about the United States
...
The Anglosphere mind has been fully reverse-colonised by its biggest boi. They define themselves in opposition to it; without it, they would have no identity at all. Very sad state of affairs.

Heard a loud noise over the house, and it was... THE GERMANS?!
It must be stopping at Shannon to get refuelled as it's scheduled to go onto Zaragoza, France.

27°C (80°F) today, the warmest I've seen it in Ireland. The house remained at 18°C (64°F) downstairs with the doors open and obviously without air conditioning. Something to be said for a metre of stone on each side.

Re: Geo-locked.
There is an album of remixes released by Japanese artist, Yoko Oginome, called "Dancing Hero (All Eat You Up) [Remixes]"
I can listen to it on Spotify no problem, but the album on Apple Music is not available in Ireland. It's available on the UK and US versions of Apple Music.
Now, I get that it is more than likely something on the label side (Victor Entertainment), but geographical restrictions are such an archaic excuse.

Had a great day climbing in the Burren (Co. Clare, Ireland) with my friend Barry from Limerick.
We developed two new routes (first ascends) at Slieve Rua:
Broken Bum (HS), lead by Barry, and Midday in the Midlands (HS) lead by me.
