Linux Mint 22.3 ist ja draussen, bin gespannt wieviele Videos auf YT erscheinen, obwohl das ganze nicht mal 10 dauert, man muss einfach nur in einem Menu was aufwählen, klicken und hacken setzen und der rest macht der PC / Lappi, natürlich vorher Backup machen lol

sidewalk garden with a 2.5 feet tall (not in bloom) California poppy plant, a non-woody plant with sort of parsley-like green leaves and a green stem. to the lower left is a smaller coyote mint, with spear-like green leaves radiating outward in groups of four.

I keep thinking about trying mint or kubuntu but I have ubuntu working and I don't really care about what the UI looking like too much. As long as it works. I like the basics which tend to be best supported.

It looks like Asus use mint toothpaste for some of the heatsink compound; crazily you have to remove the heatsink to be able to get to the wifi/bt cables, to be able to remove the top, to be able to remove the panel. Still, I think I see the problem here
(The panel was held on with 'stretch release tape' - very very impressive stuff, just gently but constantly pull it and it releases).

The inside of a laptop; normal stuff, battery, fans, ram etc - and the heatsink is off and sitting on top of the battery; it's got some minty green blobs of thermal paste on.
A close up of a display panel; cracks from the panel cross into the connection area at the bottom. Which probably explains why it's dead.

hmm, our crappy access point has terrible bufferbloat when the offspring is downloading stuff on the pc
the pc is now running linux mint, which has fq_codel by default, but evidently that’s ineffective for an edge device
so i fettled it to use bbr instead of reno congestion control, while giving a lecture on why this might help with buffer bloat
we shall see if it actually helps…

My top debian-derived linux tip is to uncomment the bash completion bits in /etc/bash.bashrc
It enables tab completion for a bunch of commandline stuff that saves loads of time
No idea why this isn't enabled by default. Setting up a new linux mint install for me these days is basically just doing that and mapping caps lock to ctrl.

#Frage ich hab auf meinen PC, Linux Mint laufen, da würde ich parallel CachyOS installieren, geht das ? Und wenn ja, wie mache ich das mit dem Booten ?
Hatte das schon mal probiert, aber da lief einiges schief, hauptsächlich in Sachen Booting und Grub. Daher meine Frage hier in vorraus ;D

Jeg er fascineret af husfacaderne her i Prenzlauer Berg. Desværre ved jeg tæt på intet om de forskellige arkitektoniske perioder, så jeg kan ikke navngive dem på billederne. Men fine er de!

Husfacade i støvet, lys rød/mørk laksefarvet med hvide rammer om vinduerne og er bånd under taget med en rød, bugtet linje. Midt på facaden en sektion i lys grå/hvid som er fremhævet fra resten og har høje, smalle vinduer
Høj lejlighedsbygning i hvid marmor hvor hjørnesektionen er åben men markeret af en høj kobberplade
Flere lejlighedsblokke hen ad en vej, malet i forskellige pastelfarver (lysegul, lyserød, lys mint, sand)
Nyere lejlighedsbyggerier der smelter smukt ind i den gamle stil

Yesterday I hooked up a brand new WD Black 8TB HDD to the 2nd PC, which is running Mint 22. No reaction, which isn't surprising for a blank drive. Opened up Disks, and there it was. Cool. Clicked the 3 vertical dot menu at the top of Disks, chose "Format Disk" and did the quick option which completed in a couple seconds.. and nothing happened.

@… I have Linux Mint as my primary OS, with Windows 11 running in a VM (VMware Workstation Pro). My laptop has 32 mb of RAM; I allocate 16 to the VM. Works fine, except that WIndows 11 is a bit slow. If I cared, I could increase the RAM allocated to the VM, because Linux doesn't use all that much.
Other VMs work fine, too. I just settled on VM…

Kann aus meiner Bubble jemand bestätigen, dass ich ohne jede Linux-Kenntnisse am ehesten mit Linux Mint und Cinnamon klarkomme, wenn ich einen älteren Laptop von Windows 10 "befreien" möchte?
Habe nichts besonderes vor mit dem Gerät. Möchte es einfach nur am Leben erhalten und Office-Anwendungen (Libre) sowie E-Mail (Thunderbird) ausprobieren.
