Ich zögere aus Gründen etwas, die Frage hier zu stellen, probiere es jetzt aber trotzdem: wenn ich das richtig sehe, ist aktuell der beste Weg weg von Google Calendar (den wir familienintern intensiv nutzen) und Google Drive/Onedrive (ähnlich) der hin zu einer Nextcloud-Installation. Theoretisch könnte ich, wenn ich das richtig sehe, Nextcloud sowohl auf meiner NAS als auch auf meinem Webspace zum Laufen bringen, habe aber eigentlich keine Lust, mich um noch eine Software zu kümmern. Ideen?

I do like #NextCloud but sometimes it can drive me crazy. For example, fresh update, hundreds of errors with astoundingly unhelpful messages. Consider:
chmod(): Operation not permitted at /var/www/nextcloud/apps/recognize/lib/Migration/InstallDeps.php#169
ok, so what do we find at line 169? a call to chmod() on presumably a filename, wrapped in an exception Catch.
I realize this is very much non-trivial software with oodles of hours of difficult work by so many kind people, but, really, how much effort would it have been to include the errant target FILENAME in the exception message?
Similarly, a deprecation warning is, by definition, a Warning, not an error.
None of this affects my using Nextcloud, but it does really clutter the log and who knows, maybe some of these Errors are actually important?

Btw: If you run/have a Nextcloud and sometimes need to see who paid what in bigger projects (think bigger purchases, holidays or so) the "Cospend" app does the trick quite well.

I found out today that the Photos app of #Nextcloud got updated.
Feels better but still isn't for me, Memories matches better.
If only I could figure out why it sorts photos by their modification time instead of the Exif creation date.

I'm still looking for a messenger that runs self-hosted, supports video calls, and is _not_ Matrix. Basically, XMPP with a better client ecosystem and working video. There must be something out there, right?

Oh my, over the weekend, my old laptop had a crash. That seems to have caused some disk damage. That happens. The not so fun part: Apparently the #Nextcloud client thought it would be a good idea to sync up a few 0KB files, including in shared folders. So now it turns out I accidentally deleted a few colleagues’ work. 🫣 I do have a backup from last Wednesday, but anything after that might be lost.…

#KDE folks, and #UX folks in particurlar, what am I to make of this Dolphin behaviour with #Nextcloud where some have ⮾ and some have ✅ but a hover makes them disappear? Where would I have been told what they do?

Having off-site backups of your data is a good idea, they said. There exist cloud storage providers with open (NextCloud) standards, they said. Some have the servers located within the jurisdiction of GDPR, they said. You can encrypt on client-side with rclone to maintain privacy, they said. They didn't mention transferring my data over my ADSL uplink would take two months and slow my interactive internet use to a crawl in the meantime.

somebody changed something somewhere: my untouched #Nextcloud admin 'connected accounts' tab now responds with ""Authenticated ciphertext could not be decoded" and "OCA\\Google\\Service\\SecretService" and its "decryptWithoutSecret" are mentioned in the log so could that suggest Google is up to its usual hijinx?

Question for #Fediverse experts: There's a new community I became a part of that communicates primarily through a #Signal group atm.
Pretty good (#Whatsapp is still the standard here) but they're not completely happy with it. One of the reasons I heard was that they'd like some way to organise #events, hold #polls, distribute #files and other info..
Is there a #Fedi #platform that offers these things? Or would something like #Nextcloud be a better option?

It is frustrating how #nextcloud now offers support for sharing to X, Facebook, Bluesky, Diaspora, Telegram and WhatsApp, but the one and only attempt at ActivityPub remains broken and abandoned 😔
I can't complain, of course, as I've never tried to write one myself and I'm certain it would not be easy to roll an integrated AP/NC bridge client from scratch, but back in nc-27 when Social almost partially worked, it was fun 😊
That all the platforms I detest are supported also depresses me a little, my faith in humanity and all that jazz.
