Für einen Verein wollten wir ein externes Nextcloud mit einem OnlyOffice DocumentServer ergänzen, um gemeinsames Bearbeiten von Dokumenten zu ermöglichen. Dabei stellt sich heraus, dass die aktuelle Version (9.4.0) in diversen Browsern absolut unbenutzbar ist, weil dort AdBlocker die notwendige "Analytics.js" blockieren. Der Bug ist bekannt und die Funktion wurde entfernt, aber es gibt immer noch kein Release. Der Fix entfernt 700 Zeilen Code in 65 Dateien:

Achtung #Nextcloud User. Scheinbar wurde die Nextcloud .com-Domain übernommen. Dort fand sich zeitweise Information von "cloudbox", nun ist die Site ganz down.
Obwohl Updates über GitHub statt die Website laufen, wäre ich mit Updates in den nächsten Tagen vorsichtig.

I started out trying to fix a problem between my Nextcloud Desktop client and one server, ended up submitting a patch to MacPorts for an update to the cadaver port. Perfectly normal sequence.

Have just started using Ente for secure, privacy focused photo back up and organisation.
So far I am actually pretty impressed. It's lightning fast and very easy to navigate - and I have tens of thousands of photos that it's definitely helping me to organise and search through easily. And share with non-Ente users too.
It's miles better than Flickr as a UI experience.
This is a test period before I decide if I migrate rest of family too.
However, I was under the impression the company was German/Dutch but it unfortunately appears to be US incorporated - even though the servers are supposed to be in NL, F and DE. It just makes me very suspicious that at some point the company will be sold off and the creeping enshittification will start again.
It is very frustrating. I could but am not very keen to self host. I have far too many other things going on in my life for that. But it does look like immich or memories for nextcloud is the only other good option. And this probably epitomises why most people just stick with (mostly US) big tech. It is so much easier and less effort than working out what the alternatives are.

Tried something new again: installed a fresh copy of Debian 13 and then immediately upgraded it to Debian Sid. I have to say: so far, it’s running remarkably stable and smoothly. Kernel 6.19.14 and GNOME 50—very nice!
As usual, for privacy and data protection reasons, I’m trying to keep the system lean, with only the absolute essentials: Firefox/Librewolf, LibreOffice, Signal, Nextcloud, Localsend, Tuta, Mullvad VPN, and Freetube as an anonymous YouTube client.

Do we have any nextcloud-like webUIs but that work for filesystem folders and stuff?
Nextcloud is really bad at loading external libraries, specially those with large amounts of files, and I use it only with external libraries. Plus, it's quite annoying to maintain since I need ro run nextcloud-occ commands every update. I just want something that lets me upload, download move files around and stuff, I don't really use most of other nextcloud features (precisely because of too much lock-in). Plus working well on mobile devices so I can upload stuff from my phone. Having the ability to integrate with Collabora/LibreOffice Online would be great, but I was never able to get that or OnlyOffice to work anyway.

On the subject of de-shitification, while #Nextcloud covers a lot but with glitches and gotchas in the 0.x version apps, the big hurdle is self-hosting email with spam filters.
I haven't configured email in a long time, and then it was Sendmail, and dimly recall validation hoops to jump that made "let gmail handle that" seem like a good idea…
Someone posted a docker pre-config for Postfix, so my question is if it would feasibly run on an rpi5 that also runs nc jellyfin and wp, and does this cover outbound emails being accepted as not-spam? #selfhosting

Today's problem: #Debian on a LAN address, had been using it for a few weeks with Zoneminder and slskd running, attempted to install Nextcloud, so added Apache2 and php-fpm, the only mucking about I did, only today it triggers Fail2Ban on my proxy/dns server. On reboot, gets banned even before login is offered! clear the ban, it's back again within a minute.
nstreams shows six of these in a row, all to different 5-digit ports:
Unknown tcp traffic between 0.0.0.0:0 and 192.168.0.13:54320
whatever it is, however I triggered it, it is offensive to #fail2ban and #ufw.
to be fair, I was trying something funky with Nextcloud accessed directly within the lan, proxied by the dnsmasq server for outside, not as simple as I'd expected, but with all that turned off and no login, it still happens.
oh, wait: the proxy host has vhost forwarding config, which yes, was broken, and when I dissite'd that, I have not been banned since! I wonder if I will ever know why 😅
