Posting links in NextDoor to @… 's good work, as one does, together with a "what this means for our neighborhood" (Boston area will get worse storms from the warmer water offshore, and worse flood drainage from those storms because of locally higher sea levels) and "what we ought to do" (all the usual things -- less cars, less meat, mo…

I think I found a way to get the folk on NextDoor to understand the minimum wage thing.
The last time the minimum wage was set was 1997. At the time, the average Social Security payout was $774 a month.
(It's currently $1696)
So, that extra $922 is just waste you don't need,, right, Gran'pa?

I just posted the below on Nextdoor, where people have been complaining about Montgomery County's just-passed repeal of minimum parking requirements near rail transit stations. Will be interesting to see the reaction.

Why haven't the people complaining about repeal of minimum parking requirements near Metro ever filed complaints about the frequent, flagrant violations of the off-street parking requirements by people who store lawnmowers in their garages?

My Nextdoor content at the moment is 99% "WARNING I got an email that said to send them money but I didn't! so scary, looked genuine!!!! so BE ALERT" and 1% "I took some things to a charity shop but they weren't even grateful and I'm a pensioner myself. that box was heavy."
Still, at least they aren't to my knowledge assisting regime change.

Just posted the following on #nextdoor Very curious about the responses if there are any.
"Why doesn't Highway Unit 1 enforce the 50mph speed limit on the West Side Highway? There are so many collisions there caused by drivers obviously going way more than 50mph. So many sirens. So much cost. I would assume all that expense raises car insurance rates. People are always complaining …

I do not miss Facebook or Instagram at all.
I don’t miss Bluesky (never was on it, if they won’t federate with ActivityPub it isn’t worth my time).
I don’t miss X. I don’t miss Snapchat. I don’t miss TikTok.
This last two weeks I also terminated Nextdoor and Telegram. (Fun fact, Telegram just announced they are monetizing content using the blockchain).
To be fair I’m still on YouTube, but you have to pick your battles.
Goodbye and good riddance to these platform…

H/T Laura Granito on NextDoor (NextDoor has occasional good uses).

Looks like someone's bike got swiped and dumped in Central Park- CPW at the 93rd St entrance when you turn right at the benches running up toward the kid's park. This looks like a frequently used bike- maybe to help earn a living and I bet they'd love to find it. Please share.

Nextdoor is where people go to discuss the “suspicious person” or to talk about how the government is “taking away their anti-gay pills”.
Why do I bother having an account there?

May have hit upon a winning argument for the NextDoor crowd: because we let housing get so expensive, it is now financially interesting for developers to buy any large lot that is on the market, and do a "hostile" MA-40B affordable housing development with as many units as they can fit on that land (a recent one I think resulted in 12 units, 3 of those affordable, replacing a single-family home. It wasn't a great place to add 12 units, but state law and the invisible hand put…

Oh man, the folks on NextDoor complaining about how bike lanes are inhibiting traffic flow are going to absolutely lose their shit about this.
