The Pattern the Raiders Defense Can No Longer Sustain si.com/nfl/raiders/onsi/las-ve

There’s an unwritten rule in publishing,
or so I’ve been told:
don’t write about COVID.
Our collective attention span has been saturated by those endless months holed up in attics and cramped corners of apartments, staring out at a world we could no longer take part in.
When the worst of it passed, we felt an urge to close that chapter, to padlock it behind a heavy latch.
But in doing so, we also tuck away the hard-won lessons of that time:

I am really interested in the linked.art initiative, but I’m finding it hard to wrap my head around it. What strikes me as particularly odd:
* The types-of-types pattern, which creates JSON structures that are very unlike usual JSON properties.
* The AATization of everything, including things like language tags, for which perfectly fine native RDF patterns exist.
Has anyone worked with it? Are there good Getting Started guides?

Man I hate the new language for a task one doesn't want to do — "aversive”.
Primary reason is that it externalizes the problem. It's fixed mindset framing, that something _else_ has to change to make the situation better, that it's the task's fault for being aversive, instead of our own for not working on the aversion to the needed task.
We have a bad habit lately of attributing relational traits to the party in a relationship, rather than to the relationship itself and it weakens our thinking about things. Noticing this pattern really changes how you think, because you can start attributing things better and noticing the contexts — and contexts are often things that can be changed!

A tranquil winter morning unfolds across a frosty field, where a delicate layer of frost sparkles on the grass and fallen leaves. The frost transforms the landscape into a shimmering wonderland, each blade of grass and leaf intricately outlined with tiny ice crystals. The foreground is dominated by a large, frost-covered leaf, its edges and veins accentuated by the glistening ice, creating a beautiful natural pattern.

Having just watched #Jaws for the first time in ages, I was stunned by the famous opening sequence ... but not by its cinematography or acting or editing - but by the never-ending chain of in-your-face #continuity errors in lighting once the girl enters the water: one moment we have a low Sun and a red sky, then we have the Sun near the zenith (with a day for night effect) then low again and so on, for several cycles.
Now #Spielberg, is there supposed to be some hidden message here? Well, there isn't.
(Once it's day, fortunately, this problem is gone, and a great movie unfolds, still fresh after 50 years. And I know, you shouldn't mess with a masterpiece, but Lucas added characters to Star Wars IV, and Cameron corrected a wrong star pattern in Titanic, so may be Spielberg could just, for an anniversary special edition ... o.k., I shut up. ;-)

Anybody recognize this pattern?
Counting from 0 to 31 in 12 bits.
Bits 5:0 are straightforward, they're one-hot pairs (one bit set for logic 0, the other for logic 1) counting in what looks to be plain binary.
But the other half are a much stranger sequence. Bits 7:6 are one hot and do what I'd expect for the first half, but then are constant 1/0 for the second half (I would expect 7:0 to be 0/1 instead).
And then bits 11:8 seem to be one-hot within the entire…

Just finished "I'm Awful, Thanks" by Lara Pickle. A good story that serves as a guide to managing emotions, although it's actually a cute story too, not just framing for the mental health discussion.
That said, I feel like it doesn't get far enough into the details of accepting self-control as our only form of real control vs. understanding that some events outside our control aren't fair or are others' attacks, and trying to manage our own emotions as our only response is a disservice to ourselves and others. Even further, I suspect that the HR resolution depicted here, while not impossible, is less frequent than much worse outcomes, which is part of a larger pattern of systemic assaults on our mental health that aren't totally solvable with individual emotional regulation.
Sure, leveling up one's control of ones own emotions and learning to accept and manage a range of emotions is super useful and it's a good thing overall, but the systemic problems of late stage capitalism are real, and making it seem like everyone is responsible for managing their own mental health in the face of these problems helps avoid confronting them.
Still, it's a good book overall, with vibrant art and a well-structured plot.

There are three schools of magic. One: State a tautology, then ring the
changes on its corollaries; that's philosophy. Two: Record many facts.
Try to find a pattern. Then make a wrong guess at the next fact; that's
science. Three: Be aware that you live in a malevolent Universe controlled
by Murphy's Law, sometimes offset by Brewster's Factor; that's engineering.

The Ruby ecosystem is going through some pretty hefty turmoil in an attempt to rescue and restore the integrity of their community.
I’m even seeing some good efforts in PHP-land to better distance itself from the vacuum of stable leadership in WordPress too.
Is there any such movement in JavaScript (the same problems exist)? The biggest pattern I’m seeing is a *huge* centralization in project funding!

First new bar tape pattern in ~15 years. My LBS was out of my customary orange, so instead of ordering, I went with this Italian 90s-retro pink-zebra look. Also to celebrate having visited the Giro this year. (Taped by LBS, not me, that's why it looks so good! I'm a clumsy oaf.)

Two handcrafted drawstring pouches rest side by side, their cozy textures inviting a closer look. The left pouch, knit in deep blues and crisp whites, features a striking geometric snowflake pattern that dances across its surface, while a sturdy white cord cinches its top. Beside it, the right pouch bursts with warmth—soft pinks and reds swirl in a marled yarn, creating a gentle, heathered effect, with a matching cord adding a playful touch. Both bags sit against a rich terracotta backdrop, the…
