There’s definitely a hopeful feeling in having room to worry about Space Camp fundraising right now, instead of, say, ICE staging at the local Target parking lot yet again (with Target’s tacit blessing, damn them). It’s been quiet in the city these last few days. Fingers crossed.
Hopeful, but also melancholy: even if ICE does in fact draw down to pre-Dec levels, our “after” is not really going to come for a long time — and when it does, it will feel more like a scar than a sunrise.

I've decided to open the #DualShock and try cleaning it up.
Took me about an hour to find the right tools and disassemble it, getting to the analog stick potentiometers. Used compressed air (read: lungs) to clean them up. Found a bit of cat hair. Took me about half an hour to figure out how to reassemble it properly, with my back aching already. After reassembly, it turned out that side triggers randomly… well, trigger.
Disassembled it again. Started reassembling while making sure that the mainboard is tightly in place. After putting the battery back in, noticed that I didn't connect the touchpad ribbon. Disassembled again, reassembled. Miraculously, it works.
The analog stick causes no trouble so far, so maybe it won't need replacement for a while still. After all, I'm not using it much.

I’ll raise a quiet glass to Robert Mueller here. In the public mind, he was first the messianic savior of democracy and then an emblem of inadequacy and institutional failure — and both those visions did him a disservice.
He tried to do the right thing in a principled way. His effort failed, and we’ve paid dearly for that failure. The failure was his, but also all of ours to share: for every one of his choices that I can second-guess, I can name half a dozen places where others failed to hold up their/our end of the bargain, took the work he handed off and dropped it flat.
He failed, but he tried his damndest — and that’s more than I can say for a lot of folks in the USA over the last 10 years.

I am old enough to have played #Doom in my childhood, but young enough not to have played it thorough back then. Since then, I've played through the remake of the first episode on Doom 3 engine, Classic Doom, and played a bit via Doomsday.
Finally, I've started replaying them all. I've decided to go with crispy-doom, which gives makes them quite accurate, with minimal improvements. And I'm playing on gamepad, which turns out just the right choice for an old game with partial autoaim.
So far I've finished Ultimate Doom and #Heretic: Shadow of the Serpent Riders. And I have to say that these games are much better than I remembered.
Doom is just great, though I have to say that the fourth episode (the one added in Ultimate Doom) is a bit uneven; it's still great, but it's start with a very hard first map and then seems to become progressively easier.
But Heretic is even better. And I have to say that all five episodes (two being expansions) are great.
