I hope the law will pass in California. When I finish work I shut down the machine until the start of the next work day. When I am on leave machine is down and cannot be contacted. There is the option to call me, but it must be an emergency and the rest of the team cannot handle the problem before the call goes out. When I do get a call there is a minimum 3 hours that I am paid for. I am on call one week out of three & get paid to be available.

The problem is not, as this story suggests, "high prices."
The problem is shamefully low pay in the United States.
