"Je router stuurt namen en MAC-adressen van devices in je huis door naar Lifemote. Verder deelt het ding de SSID’s en MAC-adressen van WiFi-netwerken in de buurt. En wat analytics-stats over je dataverbruik. Lifemote adverteert met 'AI-Powered Home Wi-Fi Solutions for ISPs’".

My OpenWRT for my servers router decided to die, which made me realize that I really need to fix something that is redudant.
Preferably something rack-mounted, something that can run OPNsense - and not something that costs to much.
Ideas?

That's a new one. Upgraded my router from Debian bookworm to trixie and all of the sysctls (including rather important ones like ipv4 and ipv6 forwarding) that I had set in /etc/sysctl.conf no longer applied, the file was moved to a .bak but not migrated to whatever Debian is trying to force me onto instead.
But overall far from the most painful distro upgrade I've had. I was worried all of my NICs would change names (again) and I'd have to rebuild my whole firewall configu…

testing out the connection speed. Looks good max for my Telus Fibre connection.
I toyed with the idea of getting one with a 2.5Gb class WAN port as I believe Telus is offering >1Gb connections now... but I resisted. This was only $80 and is far more feature rich than the telus router and should be just as fast if not faster thanks to better internals than the Telus router.

@GrapheneOS@grapheneos.social I’m still having problems with Graphene and Wi-Fi. It’s only with Graphene, not with other Android devices. Apparently, Graphene – and only Graphene – prefers a 2.4 GHz connection. And it switches from 5 GHz to 2.4 GHz shortly after logging in. Which none of the other Android devices do. This is a problem for me because, although the router maintains the connection on 2.4 GHz, it doesn’t connect to the internet at 2.4Ghz.

That means.... that we can use my streaming services at her place without the provider is bugging me about another household. If you want Wi-Fi network to work perfectly, you need to use dedicated, specialized hardware.
At work, everything is fine, but at home I was temporarily using a mini PC with a Wi-Fi card as a router/firewall, and video streaming, for example, was suffering. Now I have an wireless access point with VLANs channeling all Wi-Fi traffic (currently with three devices simultaneously streaming via Jellyfin), and everything is running smoothly, with instant video playback.
Lesson learned.…

Naja, gibt Wichtigeres.

So I'm wondering if long term it might make sense to move the VM server from a 2U to a 4U form factor.
I'd need to move the storage cluster and core router each down 2U into a currently vacant spot to free up another 2U next to where the VM server is, but that would let me fit a much taller (and less noisy) heatsink/fan on the CPU and also enable use of full height GPUs.
Not a "now" thing but if I'm targeting a many-year service lifetime for the platform it…
